I just received the 6000 wireless mouse and I tried everything but it just won't turn on. I got a new battery (tried several) and the mouse shows no signs of life. Does that mean it won't work and should I get it replaced?
Actually, the mouse itself does not light up. Make sure you have installed the driver and then sync the mouse with the dongle by pushing the inset button on the bottom of the mouse and then the button on the bottom of the dongle. - JFActually, the mouse itself does not light up. Press the "button with the star symbol" while prying up the top cover of the mouse's body to replace the batteries. If the batteries have power, the LED on the underside of the mouse will illuminate.

Plug the receiver component into an open and working USB port on your computer. Your computer should make a noise when the receiver is connected, and the system tray will show that you have connected new hardware. Some USB ports may not be compatible, so it is important to try several ports to find one that works.

Press and hold the "connect" buttons on the underside of the mouse and on the receiver for several seconds to refresh the connection. An interrupted connection will cause jerky or inconsistent on-screen performance of the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000.
I have been fighting with several of these GE Wireless Mice. Pressing the connect buttons on the mouse and USB receiver would not re-connect the mouse. As some ohere posting have pointed out, that little white circle on the usb plug shows where to squeeze to trigger the receiver to re-connect. When you've squeezed correctly, the red LED in the USB pug starts flashing brightly - not a dim flicker. You are supposed to then press the connect buttom under the mouse. Immediately the flashing LED on the receiver should go off, and your mouse should be ready to go. Each time you move the mouse, the same LED in the USB plug should flicker to show activity.
I have tried all this so many times without luck. Even replaced the mouse batteries several times - from the same pack.
Here is my 'FIX'. I think this mouse is very tight on the voltage it needs from the batteries. You need absolutely brand new, full power, good shape batteries. Bateries that look OK in another device, might not work in this mouse.
If you have a test meter and know how to use it, find a couple of batteries that are giving at least 1.6v each - more if possible. Pop these in, do the connect process above, and there is a good chance it will connect up fine.
You have to press the button on the receiver that is directly connected to the computer. While doing this, press the connect button both the mouse and the keyboard. I did this and now my keyboard is working, despite the battery indicator turning itself off a few seconds after I install it.

Go to Control Panel and click on the Mouse icon. Then
the mouse properties will appear showing the mouse buttons. Put the pointer on the left button and then go to the drop down and make sure the buttoon is set properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
Hi
If you take the batteries out there is a screw in there. unscrew and open (not easy) with flat knife in the edges wiggling.
attach and touch all the inside wires. I have had the same problem and it is an internal connector problem. Opening and closing aint easy and will take a little patience but it will work.
Good luck
