Kenmore Microhood 401.80089 - L SE L error

Hi,

I have a Kenmore Microhood 401.8009, 1.7 cu feet, 1100 watts.

After cooking some baked potatoes on the sensor setting this evening, the microwave completed its cycle and beeped when ready. We ate the potatoes, and when it was time to clean up, the screen said "L SE L" where the "L" are small and super script. (it may be "5E" not sure). No buttons work. I unplugged it for a while, and when replugging the screen lists the familiar "PRESS CLOCK TO .." and then beeps three times and back to the "L SE L".

Any ideas?

Thanks. I'll see if I can get Sears to repair it...

I am having the same issues listed with my kenmore microwave. It all of a sudden started beeping out of no where. I unplugged it and left it unplugged for hours. When I plug it back in, it asks me to set the time, but then either beeps again or now it currently has SE displayed. It's complete model number is 401.80089700

The 401 model prefix means it's actually made by Samsung.

On some Samsung models, there is an odd SE error message that seems to be vexing a lot of people.

It's probably a sensor going bad, or maybe scrambled code in the microprocessor, but it's odd.

There is one discussion of it here.

I hate to say it, but since it's a Kenmore brand, you're going to have to call Sears for service.

You can find them at http://www.sears.com

I really hope they can help you.

    UPDATE

The -SE-error is a shorted keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your
    thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have the same model and after 3 years of good service the SE error popped up. After watching some YouTube videos and preparing myself to order a replacement membrane panel, I tried taking it apart (wiping off all the grease that had accumulated .. ewww) and put it back together. Was successful and works perfectly again. Just need a phillips screw driver and patience to figure out how to remove the plastic panels and get at the control panel ... it's not hard to fix this yourself .. even if it means having to order a new control panel.

Auto Cook not working

If autocook is not working and everything else it, there is an issue with the sensor in the oven that detects the steam, The emission of steam is what triggers that unit to shut off. If it wont cook on any settings then the issue is with the microwave generator not putting out enough power. This could be from a lot of things.

GE microwave not heating, sensor error.

first suspect is the inverter board (power) and magnatron a distant second----in either case the part involved unless an expensive unit is pricey.

We are getting an error code of 5E. Microwave automatically turns on to bake a potato.

"SE " means your membrane keypad is shorting. And it is specifically the baked potato key that's shorting.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking. Better still, unplug it and do not use it.

We would need the model number in order to provide you with free assistance.

It is usually found on a tag located inside the cooking cavity or around the door frame or controller frame.

Since FixYa is still not notifying us when you respond to clarification requests, you will have to post a new help request with your model number and symptoms / questions or contact us here for free assistance.

What is the wattage for the white westinghouse microwave model wmw 17779

White-westinghouse 0.7 cu-ft microwave oven has an output power of 700 watts.
Power source for USA is 1200 watts at 120v/60Hz.
Most food cooking directions are based upon a 1100 watt microwave oven output..
You can roughly adapt cooking directions by multiplying times 1.6.

So if directions say 6 1/2 minutes at 1100w, cook for 10 minutes 24 seconds, or 10.4.minutes [roughly]
Why do people answer if they have absolutely no clue what the answer is?

Cuts off when gets too hot

inside your microwave is a heat censor, if it cuts the microwave off then its to hot for safty have a good look round the back of it to check that the air vents are all clear and that a good air supply can get all around it when its cooking food,,, iv seen so many microwaves tucked away into a small place, and they will all cut out when they get to hot,,,1100 watts gets very hot too!

Kenmore Microhood not working

I think it may be an internal fuse or a fusible link. You also have a series of contacts and switches inside that are set in place by the mfr. for safety. You could get it repaired for 50-75 dollars or a new one for 125-150 dollars. If you have checked the internal fuse, then just get a new one if the other one is older than 3-4 years.

Did I blow it up????

After washing you need to poke holes in potatoe skins or the steam can cause them to explode. Cook potatoes no longer than 6 to 8 minutes depending on your units power.

Microwave ovens can be very dangerous if damaged, so you will be safer to replace the unit. Better safe than sorry. Service on microwave ovens is not cost effective, and the newer ovens are very reasonable.
