Compaq Presario SR1030NX fails to start

Powers on fine, but does not go into startup sequence - monitor remains blank and hard drive activity light is yellow (amber). I hold the power button down to shut down, wait a few minutes and try again - same thing happens, except now I can a beep (as if the keyboard was disconnected), but still nothing on the monitor indicating a bootup. Third time's the charm right? - fiddle with all the plug ins in the back - power, monitor etc. and try again - this time success and hd activity light is green, but does occassionally go yellow which seems to put a hiccup in the startup process. Is my hard drive going bad?
Thanks

Sounds like the power supply or motherboard is biting the dust. U may consider power off, open case and clean out the dirt, check U'r connections and if the power supply smells, replace it.
Else replace the pc. When the power supply dies, it usually stresses the motherboard out and it dies later, sooner.

PXE-E61 : MEDIA TEST FAILURE , CHECK CABLE

Normally, your laptop should be configured to boot up from the hard drive before trying the network boot up. When the hard drive fails or is no longer available, or the boot up sequence in BIOS Setup has been changed so that the network boot is set before the hard drive, the symptom you describe fails.
I would recommend that you do the following:
1. Check BIOS Setup & make sure the boot sequence is set in the correct order (Hard Drive 0 should be before Network Boot).
2. Make sure that the hard drive is seated properly in its slot & that all connections are tight.
3. Make sure that the hard drive powers up when you turn on the laptop.

If none of this helps, then your hard drive has failed & might need to be replaced.

Power light on but screen is blank

Can you hook the computer up to an external monitor? If you have a desktop monitor that you can hook it too it could help determine if the LCD panel has failed.

When you turn on the computer, if you can see the harddrive light flickering/blinking then the computer is going thru the motions to boot up and it is just a visual issue. Purhaps your video card has failed. I know that HP / Compaq has had problems in the past with the Nvidia GPU seperating from the motherboard when they get too hot and the screen will go blank.

Try to hook to a external monitor and let me know your prognosis.

I have a Compaq CQ50-210. Problem with the HP COMPAQ Presario CQ50-210US NoteBook AMD Athlon X2 QL-62 15.4' Wide XGA 2GB Memory 160GB HDD... I have a Compaq CQ50-210. When I try to boot it, the screen...

Power up the external monitor first and then boot up the laptop, the video info will automatically divert to the external monitor.
If you do not see a Windows image on the external monitor then it is definitely a motherboard issue, because the video card is built in on the motherboard.
The Video card uses shared RAM (part of the RAM module/s ), try re-seating the RAM modules, also test the RAM modules.
You can test the hard drive by removing the hard drive and connecting it to an USB hard drive adapter, then connect the adapter into a working computer's USB port. If the hard drive is OK, this computer will see it as an external storage device and you can open the various folders and files on the hard drive.

When i turn my computer on i get a message that says, disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

Your boot file on your hard drive may have been corrupted. You need to start the computer with your operating system disc in the drive, and hopefully it will be able to repair your operating system. good Luck!

Only shows compaq on screen

I work with Compaq computers now and usually your problem points to the hard drive. I know Compaq's will stay on that screen if the hard drive has failed. Try another hard drive would be my suggestion.

Hope this helps.

Compaq monitor blank screen

If its a blank screen all the time that never shows anything not even a screen at startup then it sounds like the internal cable from your monitor to the motherboard of the laptop is unplugged or possibly broken. You need to remove the keyboard from the laptop to check this.

I recommend bringing the laptop to a professional if you have no experience with opening laptops.
