I don't know which shooting mode you are in, but the red shaking camera icon indicates that based on the settings that your camera is in, you may experience camera shake (which is your image stabilizer or "is" in action). The yellow blinking indicator light means that your camera is having a hard time achieving proper exposure and that the shutter speed with be slowed down to reach a proper exposure. Extending the shutter speed means that you are at risk for camera shake (i.e. blurry image).
Solutions for this are:

  • increase ISO
  • use a tripod
  • use flash
Hope this helps!

I have just purchased Canon Powershot A480

I think the "busy" part can be put down to the camera performing a function or recharging the flash. The red icon I THINK shows that the camera is focussing.

With the last model it worked so that you could half press the button to focus on something (eg a fast moving pet) and then once your pet stopped moving your could fully press the button to take a photo and the focus distance would remain the same.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Battery Installation
An adult must install batteries. Here’s how:
1. Using a Phillips screwdriver (not included) remove the screws and Watertight Cover from the
bottom of the camera.
2. Remove the screw and Battery Compartment Cover .
3. Install two (2) AA alkaline batteries (not included) making sure the (+) and (-) ends face the
proper direction as indicated inside the battery compartment.
4. Replace the Battery Compartment Cover and tighten the screw.
5. Replace the Watertight Cover and tighten the screws firmly to ensure a good seal.
Optional SD Card
Your Camera will hold approximately 10 minutes of video or 250-1000 still photos. Since portions
of the free memory space indicated in the Menu Mode are used to store the photo program, the
available space for storing photos etc., may be reduced. These numbers may also vary depending
upon the camera mode settings and the images being captured. To enlarge the memory, an
SD card (not included) may be purchased from your local camera store. To install the card an
adult must:
1. Make certain the camera is turned OFF.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver (not included) remove the screws and Watertight Cover from the
bottom of the Camera.
3. Slide the SD card (not included) into the slot until it clicks. (DO NOT force the SD card. If you
feel resistance, remove the card, make sure it is facing the correct direction, and try installing
again).
NOTE: SD card label must face toward the Camera Viewfinder and the edge of the card with the
copper contacts must be inserted first.
4. Replace the Watertight Cover and tighten the screws firmly to ensure a good seal to keep
water from entering the card slot.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
• If the Watertight Cover is not completely sealed, water may enter the compartment causing
irreparable damage to the camera.
• USE CAMERA IN FRESH WATER ONLY. DO NOT USE IN SALT WATER.
• Using the Camera at a depth of more than 3 feet is not recommended.
TIP: Keep an eye on your battery level by checking the Battery Gauge in the top-right corner of
your screen. If the Gauge is red, new alkaline batteries need to be installed.

camera and the SD card. To remove the card, press in on it and it will pop out.

Wont take photos outside

The symptoms you're describing could be caused by either the "Fireworks" special scene selection mode, or manual mode with too much exposure compensation. Look at your mode selector (back of the camera, upper left hand corner). Is the mode set to the still image setting (pointing at the liittle red camera)? Or is it set to special scene selection (SCN)?

If you are unintentionally in SCN mode, to get it out of "Fireworks", just turn the mode selector dial to select "still image" (pointing at the little red camera). Or you can also select an SCN mode more appropriate for outdoors. Just turn the dial to SCN, press the FUNC button, then press the left/right arrow buttons to select Portrait, Beach, Snow etc...

But if your mode selector is already in still image selection, then check to make sure that you're not in "Manual" picture mode. Turn the mode selector dial to "still picture mode" (pointing at the little red camera), then press the "FUNC" button. Now look at the bottom of the screen. If it says "Manual", press the "left" button controller once to select and put the camera in "Auto" still picture mode.

Can i make my digital camera to work as webcam

The webcam ability you get by using the round button on top of the camera with all the icons, between the flower icon (macro) and the Printer icon is the webcam icon. Press it and you get the Little red movie icon on the display window, upper left hand corner. If you then press the button where you take pictures the red icon in the display window will start to blink. This is an indication of that your webcam is working and is in motion. How long time your movie is going to be all depends on the memory card.

The webcam ability sucks up a lot of battery power.
Hope that helped!
