Background sound too loud

Recently the tv is making the background music of a tv show louder than the words so that we cannot hear. turning it up only makes it worse as the background music gets more louder.

any suggestions? thanks.

I have a JVC 32" TV (CRT type).  On some shows like "Bones", & "Mystery", the background sound is so loud that it drowns out the dialog.  Other shows are just fine.  My TV doesn't have a surround sound setting.

I don't understand why all tv programs have to have background music tracks. When I talk to someone I don't have background music, because I like to hear what they are saying. Almost all tv shows have the background music now and it is very, very annoying. Some of it is so loud, you can't hear the most of the actual program. I guess it will soon be included in the

news programs too, and we won't be able to hear half of what is said. The communications system need to get rid of most of the sound tracks, and get back to the old quiet and TV we used to have

I think the background noise is louder than the vocalization what can I do?

  • Anonymous Apr 27, 2009

Soundtrack or background music/effects on Discovery,Science and History channels so loud the voice or dialouge can't be heard.

Go to your TV menu - Audio or Sound and turn OFF Surround Sound.

If you don't have a home theater sound system do not turn on Surround Sound. The voice should be mixed up front and the tv will do this automatically if you don't have Surround on.

If we are supposed to hear the dialogue why then don't the pin heads in charge of audio do their jobs. This is just plain STUPID,!

I agree. I stopped watching NCIS (one of my favorites) because of to loud, Blastong bacground music, if you want to call it that. I just cannot understand any purpose for it. A couple of years ago it was unheard of.

I stopped watching NCIS because of the loud, blasting background music. When wearing headphones it's even worse. A couple of years ago the programing was fine. Other programs seem to have followed the same pattern.

Thank you, everyone! I thought maybe I was losing my mind. I can hardly watch a lot of the TV shows anymore due to the inappropriate use of music -- either it's too loud or there's just too darned much of it. Come on, TV producers! You are supposed to get better with time, not worse! Thank goodness I'm not alone.

Use your TV remote, go to "menu", then "Sound" or "Audio", then "other" - this should let you scroll down to "Surround Sound" - turn it "off". If you have surround sound - play with the remote speakers to control what you want to hear - this worls on Sony & Panasonic & many others.

Not the tv, it's the shows with music in background playing too loud

The ID channel has become unwatchable due to loud back ground music. Why any company would advertise on this channel is a mystery to me.

  • Nancy Ippolito

I absolutely agree about the ID Channel. It's gotten to the point that if something doesn't change, I will have to stop watching it. But it sounds like it's happening on many other shows. They are ruining TV watching enjoyment. I wrote 2 messages on their FB page.

Why would the super shows like NCIS, etc. do it. //the music itself is awful - listen to it carfefully. Someone is cutting costs and making money. You can buy sound loop music to dub in your own shows. It's got to be cheap because it sure isn't created by knowledgeable musicians.

I have noticed the same annoyance. It is OK when the narrator is a trained professional with a strong announcing voice . However when they interview a soft spoken person who has not been trained to have a loud booming voice ,their words are often covered over by dramatic swells in music. The only fix it can think of is to email or write to TV producers. I have sent two emails about the History network but to date they have been ignored. Recently it was on Greatest tank battles where elderly war survivors with interesting things to say were also drowned out by music. Maybe is more people complained or if a blog or if enough internet feedback developed, the people who lay in the music might listen.

Not possible to fix, per my geek brother-in-law. The real question is WHY are they doing this?

  • 3 more comments
  • Anonymous Mar 04, 2013

Your geek brother-in-law is incorrect. I have a VIZIO with the same problem and when you go to audio there is an option to turn off SURROUND SOUND. Turn if off and the dialogue is finally louder than the music.

  • Anonymous May 29, 2013

I finally did this and it worked... I also set the bass and treble to minus numbers. And balance to minus numbers as well. It worked!! No more loud music..finally!!

My solution is to stop watching the likes of Discovery and History,

If I want to listen to heavy metal in the foreground I will put on a rock CD!

I have to wonder how much of it is the channels and how much is our tv's.
I have no issue with History, and like channels, those sound just fine but, ID/OWN for me is the worst. I have adjusted my sound bar, tv, and cable box but nothing helps. Background noise goes up and down constantly like volume leveling but mines not on.
I'm at a loss on what else to do but not watch those channels.

Back ground music louder than voices watching movies on cable

Is this a new problem or always like this? <<<<<<<<

What is your speaker complement? The center usually carries the dialog.

Are the receiver and its speaker systems set up per the manual? Make it so.

How is the TV-related (Cable) audio entering your receiver? It SHOULD be from the cable box, digitally if available, NOT the TV. You don't need a Low-Fi middleman handling your audio.

The background music is louder than the voices

in the menu there should be some type of set up for this, it will most times show you on your screen a room with all the speakers in it and ask you to hit test then it will shoot a white noise type of sound around to each speaker and ask if you heard it, there are then adjustments you can make for the front, rear, and side sperkers independent of one another.

Emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.
