My mowers blades are not turning but the hum of the motor is there and it has a burning smell with smoke coming out of the motor housing unit ...help

  • poetjem May 30, 2014

Soumds as if you have something wrapped around the blade shaft and motor is smoking because it is binding. Check for wire or cord wrapped tight under the deck. I needed unbolt blade then run motor and watch, If it runs you have repaired the problem.

It sounds like bearings are seized and need to be replaced. Too much attempted use will burn out the field windings and a rewind or new motor will be needed - both costly.

Black and decker electric mower hums but blade does not turn. appears the brake is not releasing for the blade.

Something has the motor unable to turn. Do not turn on till you locate the source of the problem lest you burn it out.

My Black and Decker hedge trimmer's blades won't move, but smoke and a burning smell comes from the motor. Can it be fixed? How much would it cost?

Your blades are stuck together.
Had the same problem: when I turn on the trimmer, the motor would hum but the blades won't move.
What I did:
1. Sprayed a ton of wd40 between the blades
2. Took a screwdriver and kinda wedged it between the blades to get them unstuck. Also removed some guck between the blades.
And it worked!

Frigidaire window unit with heat and a/c smoke & burning smells

Hi, Anytime you turn a unit on like this and it smells and smokes, something is wrong. Did it smell as though it was electrical burning? Usually the blower motor is the first motor to go as they collect all of the return air and dust from the air and clog up the windings. They get hot and start to smoke, and you will know due to the smell of electrical wiring. I would turn it back on and see if it starts up and runs. If the motor hesitates in anyway, turn it off, or unplug it.If it is wired directly into a box, find out where the breaker is. If you are in fear of it catching on fire, call a air conditioning company out. I have seen them smoke like crazy but never had one catch on fire, never. I would turn it on, it will trip the breaker if the motor fails. Just watch it closely. If you can pull the front cover off and then turn it on, you may be able to see where the smoking is coming from, a motor ect.
Sincerely,
