My Food Saver V3835 will not seal canisters. It seals bags AOK but there appears to be no vacuum generated through the extension tube. We have tried several different canisters and covers. I have also placed my finger over the fitting at end port of the tube. There is no negative pressure. Is this something we can fix here or will it have to go in for service?

The negative pressure is very slight and almost not detectable when using canisters for food storage. Once the system is activated, and allowed to run until timed out, the canister should have pulled all the oxygen from the canister. Foodsaver only canisters are designed for the V3835 for vacuum sealing.

How to Vacuum Package Using Your FoodSaver® Vacuum
Packaging Canister
NOTE: FoodSaver® Vacuum Packaging Canisters can only be used with
a FoodSaver® appliance that has an Accessory Port. Please check your
QuickStart Guide to see if your appliance has one.
1. Place your FoodSaver® appliance on a fl at, dry surface and plug the power
cord into a standard electrical outlet.
2. Place the item(s) to be vacuum packaged inside the canister. Leave at least
one inch (1”) between the contents and the rim of the canister.
3. Wipe rim to ensure it is clean and dry.
4. Place the lid on top of the canister. If the canister has latches, put them
in an upright position so that the lid fi ts on the base. Push the latches
downward until they snap into place.
5. Insert one end of the Accessory Hose into the Accessory Port on your
FoodSaver® appliance.
6. Insert the other end of the Accessory Hose into the hole on the top of the
canister lid. Twist the gray tip of hose while inserting to ensure a tight fi t.
7. Follow the steps for vacuum packaging as outlined in your QuickStart
Guide.
8. Remove the Accessory Hose from the Accessory Port on the appliance
before vacuum packaging in FoodSaver® Bags.
Allow hot foods to cool to room temperature before vacuum packaging. Otherwise, the
contents may bubble up out of the canister.
How to Open the FoodSaver® Vacuum Packaging Canister
To open, press and hold down the gray rubber button in the center of the lid
until you no longer hear air escaping. This will release the vacuum and allow you
to easily remove the lid.

Microwave on counter burned paper or food between the door and the frame of the microwave. what can i use to remove the residue?

Follow the cleaning and maintenance instructions in your manual.

As long as the door closes correctly and seals, the microwave can be used. There are some good cleaners and methods available to remove the stain.

Is it safe to use an epoxy grout in my Amana RSW458P microwave oven? About an inch of the grout in the bottom back corner, where the bottom meets the side wall, has peeled away.

this must be an oldie cus im not in the knowlege of any microwaves that are sealed with grout , most all today are heat sealed using an ultrasonic weld that i know of
but i caution you using non food grade materials inside any oven, heat generated by cooking may leak out chemicals in sealers and "grout" that are not designed for food and poision the food inside id contact Amana directly and inquire about them selling you a tube of this sealer ?

Sub-Zero 601 F - when the door closes is re-vacumn seals and take 3-5 minutes before you can re-open the door. Is this time adjustable to something less? This is very inconvenient when working in the...

Q: Why is my door hard to open?
A: Your unit was designed for an airtight seal.
A vacuum seal can form after the door is closed. Wait several seconds for pressure to equalize before reopening the door.

I have had this problem as well. A quick solution is to put a thick straw between the seal and the unit. this usually makes it easier to open. Don't forget to remove it though.

How long do you pressure cook corn packed in cold jars?

I hope your not doing this in a microwave. It will cook the corn too much. A double boiler or water bath works good.

Basically you are trying to get the food above about 140°F. This is enough to kill off the bacteria. Then when you put the lid on the jar cools and forms a vacuum seal. I just use a digital thermometer and measure the temp to make sure. My mom used to use a timer but then you never were 100% sure it got hot enough to sterilize the food.

Now if you can actually use a microwave for doing this then I've learned something today ;-] I'd still go by the temperature but that would be faster if it works as well as the traditional ways.

Its runs but no heat.

It is usually the magnetron tube that fails which then blows an inner-cabinet fuse. The world seems full of bad Asian made magnetrons that fail prematurely due to air infiltrated internal vacuums from leaking metal to glass seals. It will probably cost more in parts and labor to repair than a new unit. A well made magnetron should gradually lose output power over time (years), not just quit. Hope this helps!

Microwave will not heat

If the light and fan are not coming on, your door switch is not engaging or your outlet has no power. If the fan and light are coming on, but the food is not heating, the magnetron tube is shot. If the switch is not engaging, try cleaning it and the door seal. If that doesn't do it or the tube is shot, send it to the white goods recycling center and buy a new one. They are cheap enough these days.

Everything appears to be working, but it does not heat the food

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Do you cook a lot of popcorn?

Do you place your food items in the center of the turntable as opposed to placing them off-center?

Both can cause repeated heating of the same spot on the turntable, which can stress it and allow it to crack.

You can buy replacement parts here.

I suggest that when you cook popcorn, place a paper plate or two upside-down under the bag and always place your food items off-center on the turntable tray.

Once you have the new parts, I would suggest at least a quick heat test. That is to heat one cup of water on high and it should boil in about 2 to 2-1/2 minutes.

If you would like to perform a more standard heat test, please see my Ask Mr. Microwave page.

If your magnetron is indeed running too hot, then it is probably dying. Sometimes - like a star - they can burn hotter right before they die.
