I am new to this camera. My picture counter is loose and you can move it to different numbers. Is it broken? (because I heard that you should advance the film to "1" before you start taking pictures, but I can move it to different numbers, from 0 to 35) and I'm not sure how many times should I advance it before I take the next picture?

It's broken. The K1000 will automatically advance the counter to the end of your roll. Removing the film and closing the back should reset it. If it's not doing that, it's broken.

SOURCE: Pentax zx-50 Shutter Problems?

I really think this is the classic zx - 50 shutter motor problem : small motor on the side of the mirror box is not cocking the shutter . This is very repairable but unfortunately it requires fair amount stripping down of the camera to get to the fault and so you will have to take it in for repairs.

SOURCE: Film advance lever

Yes this is fairly common with K 1000 and the Spotmatics : although the shutter is cocked and hence you cannot advance film you cannot release shutter because mirror box is not cocked. Remedy : remove bottom cover and locate mirror box lever which protrudes slightely and is movable up and down and is spring loaded. Move upwards until it licks in position ( moving up against spring tension ). Now release the shutter and camera should let you advance the film .

SOURCE: film advance lever

Your camera is cocked but since the shutter is not working you cannot release it and hence your film advance mechanism does not work. ME-super will work without batteries in full manual mode so set your shutter to B and try to release it. If the shutter will not release in B mode then the shutter/mirror box will need servicing : rubber components in the mirror box mechanism have perished and need replacing. After that your camera will be fine for another couple of years.

SOURCE: Loading film

After further investigation and because I can't keep my hands out of things I now know that the camera body is defective and that the shutter is jammed. It will only release with assistance. I was loading it correctly.

SOURCE: 35 mm, Minolta X700

Is the re-wind button stuck in? If so it can be released by moving the take-up sprocket manually. If that did not work there is a broken take up gear. This was a common problem with the X700, a white plastic gear was used at the bottom of the take up spool mechanism that just was not strong enough especially when trying to get just one more shot from the roll of film. No new parts are available.

My Pentax ZX-7 (MX-7) mirror is stuck

This camera can be notorious for these types of film advance issues. The bad news is that a ZX-7 is probably not repairable. Good news is that there are many used Pentax bodies out there that will work with you lenses.

Try moving the coupler on the bottom where the motor drive would connect. See if you can rotate the piece clockwise. With the advance lever loose, it may be in mid-cycle on the winding/advance

Mamiya M645j film counter not advancing to start when roll loaded

It's a common problem in the 645 - if you want to do it yourself, without a permanent fix, put a DROP ( not a lot ) of lighter fluid, or rubbing alcohol on the tip of a fine screwdriver and apply it to the gear you use to rewind the camera, and turn back and forth a few times. If that doesn't loosen it, it'll have to be disassembled.

Events taken

Events are not the same thing as pictures. I am not sure what makes the event counter move but I have 17 of these cameras and have used them for several years and most of my cameras have over 1500 events. I think an event is logged when it takes the first photo but an animal can remain in the area taking more photos which will show on the picture total. The evnt counter must have to be dormant for some period before it will register as a new event. Let the camera cycle through each counter and I believe the picture total is displayed after the events.

Don't worry about your event counter just the picture counter. I hope this helps.

Pentax MZ 50 film winding problem

Well, I'm not a camera repairman, but it sounds to me (and probably to you too) that the electronics are damaged or perhaps there's dust in the contacts inside. I also have an MZ-50. There's so many electronics involved and they don't age so gracefully. I would consider buying another one off eBay or you can get a ZX-30 (same as MZ-30) for $75 from Blue Moon Camera & Machine with a 1 year warranty (parts and labor). The best way would be, in my opinion, to get a manual, mechanical camera from the 1970s and put a good lens on it. Those seem to last forever. No electronics to worry about. Advance and rewind the film manually. You can use a digital camera as a light meter to set the aperture and shutter speed. I'm thinking of going this route when my MZ-50 finally conks out.

Winder button is extremely tight

Take top cover off and look in the area of frame counter ( right hand side ) and underneeth the main transport drive ( under the frame counter ) for a short piesce of metal ( 3 mm long ) that may be wedged in or between the gears of the drive. The piesce breaking off and falling into the drive is a common problem with MEs and ME supers. The broken off piece does not have to be replaced ( no vital role ) just assamble the camera and it will work fine.
