I'm getting an "Err" message on my digital temperature reading. The grill starts up but then shuts down when the "Err" message comes up.

Remove your grill, inner shield and outer dip plate from the Traeger. Start the Traeger in smoke mode. Observe to see if the blower fan is working. Is the auger turning? Are the pellets dry? Condensation can make the pellets swell and cause plug ups.

Traeger has shut down twice during cooking. Started up again and it worked. Why.thank you

You probably got an error message, too. If it goes below a certain temperature for too long, it will shut down. It can be annoying, but I guess it's a safety feature. Are you in a cold climate? Try cooking at a little higher heat level.

After 10 minutes on smoke, closed the lid and set temperature to 300. The readout says LEr and the grill is cool. Suggestions besides using a gas grill?

Do you get an error messsage that looks like LEr? If a Traeger can't reach 125 for ten consecutive minutes, it will automatically shut down. Try starting at a higher temperature than "Smoke" if it's cold outside.

What does ERR-1 message indicate?

Check the exhaust pipe for a clog. Outside of the machine by the vent you should feel the rush of hot, moisture laden air coming out. When the hot exhaust does not leave the machine as intended and collects, raising the temperatures inordinately and causing it to overheat and shut down.

U might try bypassing the temp limiter sensors to see if unit continues to operate.

I keep getting an error msg. When it finally starts, it shuts off with the Err

Hi Terry,

This may help... ...from Treager's site FAQ

"My Unit Goes Out On Smoke
  1. Open the cooking chamber lid and remove cooking grill, angled drip pan and U-shaped firepot cover. Look and see if there is a large accumulation of pellet ash in and around the firepot. If there is, it will need to be cleaned out. Do this ONLY WHEN THE GRILL IS TOTALLY COLD! Replace U-shaped firepot cover, angled drip pan and cooking grills and resume cooking/smoking process.
  2. If this does not remedy the problem, please contact the Traeger Service Department."
From my personal experience, cleaning out the pellet ash is needed when the smoker will not hold a high temperature regardless of the thermostat setting.

In your case, the fire pot may be packed with pellet ash and pellets from the auger jamming.

Good luck.

Err message on my Traeger smoker, first time using it

I had the same problem; I talked to Traeger talked to their rep and he walked me through fixing the problem. There are two wires leading from the temperature probe, these lead back to the thermostat digital controller. With the unit unplugged, unscrew the two screws holding the temperature controller in place. Slowly and carefully pull out, and check that both wires are running into the controller. If either is disconnected, strip a little more wire off the loosened wire, put back in hole and tighten the wire back down. That was the trick for my grill. Reassemble and reconnect power and test it out.

Hello - I have a Compool 3600 system and recently I started getting an ERR 1 message on my control center. After doing some research, I ordered a replacement temperature sensor (TS5L with red and green...

With the information that you gave above I come up with this.
1. You got an error 1 message which indicates a bad WATER TEMPERATURE sensor.
2. You installed the sensor and you got the same message
3. To test it you removed the sensor and got an error 3 instead.
This is what identifies the problem.
The sensor that you swapped must have been the FREEZE TEMPERATURE sensor and not the WATER TEMPERATURE sensor.
The error 3 code only comes on when the FREEZE sensor is diabled or disconnected.

Solution: Trace the TEMPERATURE sensor and replace this sensor. The original freeze sensor is probably still good if you still have it.
Check out this manual and refer to page 38 "problem solving"

Refer to page 18 for the low voltage wiring diagram to find and trace the water sensor

Over Temperature

Perhaps one or more of the cooling fans are inoperative. One of the fans is easily accessible by removing the two screws that hold the grille cover on the left side of the set. When you power up this is one of the fans that should kick on. The other fans require removing the back panel and probably will require a service tech for replacement. You can enter the service mode by pressing "Menu"- 619 -"Menu" and going to "INFO" on the menu bar. You can check your system temperature and it may indicate which of the fans is not working.
