By the sounds of it you are using Outlook 2007 or 2010
to download your email from sites like hotmail and Yahoo you need POP3 not Exchange. Exchange is a Microsoft Email server used by companies.

to remove the exchange section in outlook you need to go to the "Configuration Panel" then click on "Mail" in there you will have a profile called "Outlook" click on "Email acounts" and remove the item that says "Exchange" then click "Add " tick the box "Manually selct settings" select POP3 and add the details for your email as per their instructions

This is the best answer yet but not being very computer savvy, how do I get to the "Configuration Panel?" I've looked in differest places but can't find it.

click on the Startbutton and control panel is on the righthand side of the pop up box just above printers and below "my networking places"

Unfortunately, if you are on a home computer there is no way to make the Exchange Server available because you are not on a network that has an exchange server. Exchange servers are used to hosts multiple computers with a mail service.
If you are tied to a network at work or business, you will need to have the exchange server they have setup by name, applied to your email account. Until your name and exchange server are resolved to your account you won't be able to access your email.

You can setup Microsoft outlook to upload your email from your yahoo account or any other email account if you wish though. You would have to setup a POP3 email account through Microsoft Outlook though.

Not sure exactly what you are wanting to do.

If you just want an email account. Go to www.mail.live.com.
Setup an email account and you can access your email from there.
Hope this helps!

Microsoft Exchange error message when deleting mail

- Stop the Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer service. Run Stop-Service MSExchangeSearch if you are into Shell.
- Browse to where the database files are located on the disk. Along with the database file, you will see a folder with "CatalogData-random string" as its name. Delete this folder, which stores the corrupt index.
- Restart the Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer service. Run Start-Service MSExchangeSearch if you are into Shell.
- Give it a minute and a new folder will be created and a new index will be built.

How to Setup Microsoft Exchange Server

<p>Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 released on September 28, 2003. One of the new features in Exchange Server 2003 is enhanced disaster recovery which allows administrators to bring the server online more quickly. This is done by allowing the server to send and receive mail while the message stores are being recovered from backup. Now newly released version of Exchange server is Exchange 2010 after 2007 version. Exchange server 2010 officially released on 9th November 2009. But here I will discuss about Microsoft Exchange server 2003. In a workstation most of users are use Microsoft Exchange server as mail server.<br /> <p><span><span><b>Requirement of Exchange Server 2003:</b></span></span> <span> </span>Required OS for Exchange Server2003 is Microsoft Server 2oo3. There this Server should be a domain controller. For Exchange 2003 need some protocol like <br /> <p> <br /> <p><span><span><b><span> </span><span> </span></b></span></span>1&gt; asp.net<br /> <p><span> </span><span> </span>2&gt; SMTP<br /> <p><span> </span>3&gt;NMTP<br /> <p><span> </span><span> </span>4&gt;W.W.W<br /> <p> <br> <p>IIS should be install in server . In hardware system should have minimum 256MB of memory<br> <p><span><span><b>Installation of Exchange Server 2003: </b></SPAN></SPAN>There have three steps to install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.<br> <p><span><span>1&gt;<span> </SPAN></SPAN></SPAN>Preparation of forest<br> <p><span><span>2&gt;<span> </SPAN></SPAN></SPAN>Preparation<span> </SPAN>of domain<br> <p><span><span>3&gt;<span> </SPAN></SPAN></SPAN>Installation<span> </SPAN>of Exchange Server<br> <p>To install Exchange Server you have to install the required protocol first. I have install the windows component such as IIS, ASP.NET, NNTP, W.W.W. from control panel with OS CD. Then I insert the Exchange Server Disk in CD rom drive and start the preparation of forest. I open the disk and run the forest prep from Exchange 2003 deployment tools. It will take several times to complete. After completing the forest prep I have run the Domain prep with the same procedure. The Domain prep will take also lots of time to complete. Then I have installed the exchange server by creating a new exchange organization. The total process also possible to complete from Run with command. The total job takes a huge time almost one hour or more. After installing Exchange Server I have configured it as per direction of the company. I have add users, groups, I create new administrative group. Following this process there I have done the whole job successfully. <br> <p><span></SPAN>

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot Open the Outlook window. The Server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists error message when I click on the office icon.

It looks as if your outlook is set to look for a Microsoft Exchange Server. If this is the case check the settings are correct.
If you are not using Exchange then you will need to change the server type to your POP3 mail server.

If you have problems post a reply.

Http://503 error in exchange mail

Try this if it doesn't work tell me and I will continue troubleshooting

After you type the address to Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) on an Exchange 2003 computer, you may receive the following error message on your browser before you receive the OWA log on prompt: 503 Service Unavailable
This problem occurs if the Davex.dll file cannot communicate with either a mailbox store or a public folder store.
Make Sure That All the Services Are Running
The "503 Service Unavailable" error message may occur if the Exchange 2003 services are not running, particularly if the system attendant and the information store are not running. To view the services and make sure that all the services are running!!
