It can cause a fire. The same thing happened to me fortunately I ha dthe extended warrantee and it was covered. This is a common problem and should be addressed by Viking. After all it is not a cheap appliance.

SOURCE: Only 1 of 5 burners is working on my Viking electric cooktop

By only 1 burner working, I take you mean only 1 ignites, then it sounds as though you have an issue with the spark module being defective. There is usually an access panel on the bottom of the unit, although not on all of them. Remember to disconnect from the electric.

Our cooktop knobs for our model JGC8536 Jenn-air cooktop are made of plastic and melt if a pot gets to close. Are there any metal knobs available?

What color is your cook-top? The stainless model may have actual steel knobs.. End your model number with "s" when looking for the parts..
If you have stainless and they are still plastic "stainless look" knobs then call the manufacturer as they would be the only ones to be able to determine if there is a metal knob available for your unit.
Good luck!

The circuit breaker for out kitchenaid glass

Water probably did get into the switch(es). The best bet for a fast fix is to pull the knobs off and use an air can (like for blowing dust out electronics) to blow down into the holes. This will dry out any water in there and should allow you to use it again. To be extra sure, blow out the switches and leave the knobs off over night. In the morning the knobs can be replaced and the cook top should be good to use. Hope this helps!

Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck

VGSU 36" gas cook-top control panel paint coming off

I just bought a bank repo home in So. Cal. that has the same Viking range as you have. Yes, the black lettering has almost entirely rubbed off. on this one too. Not good for such an expensive product.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new panel from appliancezone.com

http://store.appliancezone.com

Part # PE40057

The price is about $75, $80 with shipping, which is a ripoff I know.

I plan to put a clear coat of sealer on it and let my wife know to treat it gently.

I was surprised how many people think Viking products suck. Lots of negative reviews abound on the internet. If I was to buy a whole new range I think I'd avoid this brand.

Cheers,

Andy Dale

Cooktop downdraft blower control knob broke off

Hello
Yes their is a way, you need to unplug the power, and look for the brackes that holds the cooktop to the counter, remove those scrwes and lift the cook top, then look under the top lip and you will see small scrwes, remove those and the glass will lift, then just reverse the steps.
Hope this help!!
