You're probably right. But it may have just come loose. Either way, you'll have to remove the door panel to find out. Take the screws out of the door panel (usually in latch and pull handle) & pop the door panel off carefully do as not to damage any of the clips. Also, if you have manual windows, pop the ring off from where the crank handle goes into the door panel and pull off the crank handle. If you have power windows, just disconnect the wiring harness. If the cable just came loose, just reattach it. If the cackle broke, you can find them online or in auto parts store for 20-30 bucks. Good luck!

there is the latch release that u have to push up does it feel loose I have a 99 2500 and the latch keeper broke and allowed the latch to spin around and wouldn't release try to look and see it the latch is sideways or if there is a black plastic keeper near the bottom of the latch handle

The idea is to lift up on the part of the latch that is fixed to the body of the washer. The door part of the latch slides under this peice. If the handle mechanism is broken, it will not depres the door part of the latch to allow it to open. therefore, we have to pickup the latch part fixed to the body.

To get the door open, take a clothes hanger and cut off a 12" peice with a pair of pliers. Bend the last 1.25" at 90 degress angle. Make another bend about 4 " from that to make another 90 degree angle. This will give you leverage. Insert the first bent end between the top of the door and the counter. Rotate it so that the end is facing down. Feel for a metal plate. When you hit the plate with the probe, turn your hanger so that it lifts up the plate and simultaneously pull on the door handle. The door should come open.

Now you have to get the handle repaired, but at least you know how to open the door.

get a coat hanger or flexible wire and try to run it under latch from the top. This may be difficult depending on how your countertop is. Once it's under the latch from one side to the other, pull up on both sides of wire to raise the latching mechanism. Open door.

buy a new one and replace

I have a 02 s 10 with a stuck bottom 3rd door latch. I took my seat balts loose removed the door panel,also removed the plastic latch yoy use to open door, the top latch was alredy opened and I put a needle nose vise grip on the lever going to the bottom I used to much and broke the little plastic retaing piece that holds the lever.I looked inside door with light saw my latch was in open pos and took pry bar to pry botton door from inside,once opened i used a 10 mm 1/4 in drive to take out 4 bolt's to latch.removed latch placed in vice and heated with burnsomatic torch,the latch is coated with a plastic so i burned it all off with vice grip on the lever to open and pliers the work the part that catches door striker I kept working it until it freed up then put antu seige on put back in truck. I recomend buying a new latch and put anti seize on it. that's my plan but at least it's working for now. or get a good used one from a junk yard. you can e mail me at [email protected] for ant Q's

The cables and latch become dirty and corroded,and the spring wrapped cabbles can even rust on the inside.
The cable itself may have broke.
if you are able you can lay down under the front reach up through the grill and you just have to feel your way take a short screw driver and feel where the cable connects to the latch,use the screwdriver for a lever and pry the latch open.
once it is open have someone pull the release and watch for movement,if it does clean the latch ,spray cable lube into the cable while moving.
then adjust the latch a little,not to much at a time or the hood will be loose.
Of course if there is no movement in the cable it means its broke and will have to be replaced

The cable hooks up to the latch under your left foot and goes back to the latch on the gas fill door. I believe you can take the trim loose from the trunk to see what the cable is doing. May have snapped or something on the latch near the fuel door broke. You should be able to manually open the door.

Remove the six or seven screws that secure the entire control panel to the door (screws are located inside of door around the top. Pull out the control panel and the door latch mechanism will be right there for you to work on.
