The 43h71 has a pair of convergence ics that commonly go bad and cause this problem. replace original stk392-110 with stk392-120. the upgrades have a collector rated at 4 amps vs the 110's 3 amps and should be more reliable.

also know that they hyperboard in this set can cause squiggly lines throughout but will not affect the convergence.

The picture is producing a double image which appears to be in red only with a slight bending of the images on some parts of the screen.

Your Convergence ICs have failed. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless.

How to set convergence on Projection TV ' s

I have given an general explanation on most projection TV ' s

  1. Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
  2. Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
  3. Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
  4. Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
  5. Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
  6. Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
  7. Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
  8. Repeat these steps for all colors.

It has tripple vision and looks like a bow tie.

hi, sounds like a convergence issue. try this...
  • Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.

  • Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
  • Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
  • Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
  • Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
  • Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
  • Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
  • Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
  • Repeat these steps for all colors.

  • good luck!

    How do you set convergence

What is your Make and Model number?

    Red and blue ghosting,

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

    Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

    *Screen Looks 3-D
    *Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

    Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

    *Dull looking picture
    *White looking picture
    *Halos around objects
    *Red/Orange looking picture
