The high limit sensor might be bad, not allowing it to get to a hotter temp.

if the dryer is set to automatic cycle and it does not heat it will not advance be sure to check power for 220v , could be broken element , thermostats, timer , motor switch

The timer is stripped inside and needs to be replaced. The cogged teeth are made of plastic and a tooth or two has broken off keeping the timer from moving while running

HI. Due to the fact that the timer is not advancing, this will lead me to believe that the timer is the culprit here. The timer is equipped with a motor. this motor, when energized, will advance the timer dial, thus, activating the unit, and progressing the cycle. If the motor is damaged, as in your case, the unit will not heat, or run correctly. Simply replacing the timer control module will correct this problem.

Replace this damaged timer mechanism asap.

The problems are related. The timer advances when the thermostats sense that heat is being applied to the air in the dryer. With no heat, the sensors do not allow the time to advance.

You did not mention... Is your dryer gas or electric? If Electric, the most likely culprit is a burned out heating element or a faulty internal heat-sensing thermostat. Burned wires or a defective motor switch are less common factors.

If it's a gas dryer, suspect the glow sensor (could be something as simple as lint covering it), temperature control thermostats, or the heater switch on the motor.

mcwilliams if you pull the over off the front of the dryer at the bottom you can see the gas burner assy. Put the dryer on time dry and start the dryer, you should see a glow from the ignitor, then hear a click, then the heat come on. In the auto dry mode, the timer advances along with the dryness level. No heat, No timer advancing. If you don't see a glow, there should be a thermosat on the heater can, see if it is tripped. If so if it is resetable, reset then try again. You may have a bad ignitor.
