How to upgrade BIOS in my XW400? - Compaq XW4000 PC Desktop

It seem your current version "LF94510J.64T.0000.2009.0123.1105" doesnt have any BIOS ID's which is required to upgrading. Where '0000' should have any version number.
I recommend using DOS environment when upgrading BIOS, this is the safe way flashing BIOS..so download file LF94510J.86A.0278.BI.ZIP here.
Extract all files on USB flash disk which is bootable flash disk. Run files executable on the command prompt and follow the instructions..

How do I upgrade the Bios for E5140, E5320, E5520, E6150, E6520, E6530 and E6550 LifeBooks?
NOTE: This BIOS upgrade is for E5140, E5320, E5520, E6150, E6520, E6530 and E6550 LifeBooks. The upgrade fixes an issue with the Full Dock II/LAN Dock II/Port Replicator II.
Instructions on Upgrading the BIOS.
Step 1: Create a bootable BIOS upgrade disk
This step can be performed on any system (desktop/notebook computer) running a Microsoft Operating system.

1. Place the BIOS upgrade disk in the floppy drive of your pc/notebook.
2. Copy the system files onto the BIOS upgrade disk to make it bootable.
3. For example:
   MS DOS prompt: type 'sys A:'
   MS Windows:
4. Double click "My computer" on the desktop.
5. Right click the floppy drive icon.
6. Select "Format?"
7. Select the "copy system files only" option

Step 2: Upgrading the BIOS

1. Attach a floppy disk drive to the LifeBook to be upgraded.
2. Place the BIOS upgrade disk (created in Step 1) in the floppy drive of that LifeBook.
3. Reboot the system. Boot from the floppy.
4. At the command prompt, type:
   phlash /mode=3 filename.rom (put a space after "phlash" and after "3". Filename is the name of the BIOS.)
5. Allow the system to reboot.

Step 3: Change BIOS settings (For users upgrading from Windows 9x to Windows 2000).
To allow Windows 2000 to better manage your system, change the following settings in your BIOS:
a) Boot the notebook and press F2 to enter BIOS setup.
b) Set Power Management to Disabled
b) Set Plug and Play OS to NO
Consult your user's guide on how to change BIOS settings.

Doing a BIOS-upgrade incorrectly can "kill" the motherboard. If you _need_ to upgrade the BIOS, take the computer to a qualified technician.
If you do _NOT_ "need" to upgrade, then don't try.

BIOS upgrades are USUALLY done in DOS. Most times, you need to boot from a floppy or CD that is specific for BIOS upgrade. Some BIOS upgrade software may be apllied through Windows, but this depends on your computer manufacturer.
BTW, if your computer is running ok, DO NOT MESS UP WITH THE BIOS. You may risk ruining your laptop.
IF IT IS NO BROKEN, DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT.

If you want upgrade you CPU, you must first know, specification of motherboard.
If the motherboard can´t see a new CPU, more exactly bios, you can try only one upgrade bios.
I give you a link for a manual and upgrade bios.

When you upgrade bios, try new CPU, if bios again don´t see a CPU, you can´t do anything about that.

if you go to the website for your board they will have the lastest bios upgrade and flash utility. also you will find a text file that tells you what bug fixes the newer bios cures.
be that as it may.... i just don't recommend a bios upgrade if everything is working as you can cause the computer to fail if you flash the incorrect bios etc.

I would advice against updateing a laptop bios. But you can get the bios from the same place you get drivers for your laptop.
