I have four dell optiplex gx620 computers. Three have suddenly dropped off showing no signs of power though they are plugged in. I mean no lights, no fan, no signs of power. Do you know if this is a common problem and if so ... what is the likely failure ... Power Supply?

I may have given you the wrong idea. They dropped off one at a time. Each are connected to UPS's which show an output on meter of Normal voltage.

First check your power supply at the outlet. If that is okay, check that the power is turned on at the back of the cpu. If still no power check the power cord. This part should be easy since you have a computer that still works. Just switch the power cords. It does sound odd since all three stopped at the same time. But if they all run off the same circuit you could have a bad fuse or tripped breaker.

It is odd but still check for power first. Until you know that power is getting to the cpu you can't really check anything else.

Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop PC's south bridge IC heats up abnormally...

Check the capacitors on the motherboard, Dell had a BIG problem with faulty capacitors on the GX270, GX520, GX620, GX745 and GX755 units. The parts would cause the unit to either not boot at all or lockup booting or running programs. I would bet you have some that are just beginning to fail and the motherboard power is not stable which would mean the chips are not getting enough power. Here is a link to an article about the issue and what to look for on your board.
