Cannot open drive E on Iomega zip 100

Assuming you have connected the drive and then restarted the computer with the drive connected and powered on... if it is model 31714 (not the same as the picture no power supply is required - if power supply is required make sure unit is powered on prior to connecting)

First guess at your problem. Your disks are formatted for a operating system other than what you are using. (Mac formatted disks on a PC or the other way around)

If you don't know how the disks were formatted you could test this by letting it get to the "insert disk" and then trying to right click and see if you have a format option ... note this will erase all information on the disks.. you will likely need to long format

Second guess the drive is bad... have seen cases where the drive is bad. If you have another computer you can use try hooking the computer up to another computer and see if you get the same result.

Let me know if this does not work and specific model number and op system I might have more ideas. I can also point you to a replacement If I know more about your system.

I have a Zip 250 disk that will not read. When I insert the disk in the external disk drive, it will spin and stop a few times and that's it. When I try to access the disk/drive letter via "My Computer",...

If the disk is unreadable this means that the format or the files extensions on it are not readable in the operation system you use..either are damaged or the disk itself is damaged or it wasn't finalized like it should ...If other disks inserted run ok than the disk it is damaged and it is nothing wrong with the drive itself..When it says to insert a disk this means that it is not seeing the disk at all and it sounds like a drive problem ..but if other disks are ok ..than it is just a damaged disk or in a format unreadable ..beware if it a cd unit ..will not read dvd-es..or if it a dvd kind will not read large dvd-es (dual layer) or blue-ray disks..

Can not formate a zip disk due to losing the file to help format

You can download drivers from IOMEGA's site:
https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/cci/subproduct.php?p_prods=1&p_pv=1.1&prod_lvl1=1

The drivers should include software that will allow you to format your Zip disks.

Iomega zip drive Z100ATAPI returns error message: "Insert Disk into drive H:" even though there is a disk in it. It is recognized by the system and Device Manager in Windwos XP says the drive is...

Just because the device manager says the drive is working fine doesn't mean it is. If it won't recognize the ZIP disk, either the disk itself is bad or the zip drive is bad. I would try another zip disk and see if it will read a known good zip disk.

Cant figure out how to use zip drive when i have added a pass to my zip dr 250

1. Insert a blank disk into the zip drive
2. Give this disk a password (it can be any password, as long as you
remember it)
3. Using the Ioega toolset, set the zip drive's sleep time to a large
value (such as 1 minute)
4. Wait a while until the drive "spins down". You will hear the drive
stop spinning.
5. Take a pin or a straighten paper clip and stick it into a hole in
the back of the Zip drive. This will manually eject the blank disk.
6. Insert the disk you want to access (the one you don't know the
password to)
7. now use the IoMega toolset to remove the password. When prompted
for the password use the password from step (2).
This is just a word of warning in case you store any important information like I used to on zip disks. Perhaps move to a more secure medium.
