Hi there!

Try to change the setting of the brightness in BIOS,
You can access bios by pressing f2 after you turn on the computer, then you will see brightness there, max out the brightness.

If it still does not work then go to the power options of your laptop then change the setting of the brightness when the charger is plugged in.

Hope this helps!

Broken screen on dell 910 plugging into external monitor is no reconnized what am I doing wrong ?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

I cracked my screen a while back and started using a monitor for my screen, which i had no problems with what so ever. I bought a monitor off someone, as they were seeing which monitor was best they were...

I'd check the ext. monitor port for bent pins, or possibly even a broken pin - if it's bent you can probably straighten it out (very carefully using tweezers),; if it's broken then it's toast - that's pobably why you ain't getting a signal on the external.

The 2nd hand screen is either no good or improperly installed or it might not be compatible (I've seen incompatible screens where the brightness control adjustments are just ... reversed - i.e. dim means brighter, and brighter means dimmer). eBay is a pretty good source for these things (used, original stuff) so I'd check there if I still have access to the original screen (the cracked one). Check under Samsung N130 and you should see plenty of screens that are being parted out...

I have a Dell inspiron 1721. The screen is dim ... when I try to adjust the brightness it won't adjust any brighter than it already is and makes some type of humming noise at the settings in the middle. ...

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp

Monitor comes on very dim, I can't see

click your "fn" key and then press the brightness key on the keyboard (it will be a blue or green "sun")
If this does not work, plug an external monitor to the laptop, if the screen is good on the monitor, your LCD display panel is shot.
