Dell Mini 910 Laptop: Removed

Hi!

As described in the title, your DELL Mini has a very small capacity SSD (8 GB Solid state drive).
For windows operating systems toghether with some usual applications like MS Office, messengers, adobe reader and flash player etc. it is simply not enough.
Of course, installing a larger SSD instead of your 8GB one will solve the issue, but I think it's not what you expect for an answer.
That's why I try to suggest an alternative way:
Please go to CONTROL PANNEL, ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS (in WIndows XP, in Windows 7 it is called PROGRAMS AND FEATURES).
In the displayed list please uninstall any programs you do not really need. Also, in the left side pannel there is an option called add/remove windows components: here you can uninstall other applications e.g the games contained in the windows installation like solitaire.
After doing so, you will gain some free space on your SSD.

Please let me know if it worked,

Good luck!

How to reinstall <windows

If the ntoskrnl.exe file is corrupt or missing this can also generate the error. To restore this file follow the below steps.

1.Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD. Note: If you have a recovery CD or a restore CD and not a Microsoft Windows XP CD it is likely the below steps will not resolve your issue.
2.Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this message press any key.
3.In the Microsoft Windows XP setup menu press the R key to enter the recovery console.
4.Select the operating system you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password.
5.Type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32
6.You will then be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file type Y and press enter to overwrite the file.
7.Type exit to reboot the computer.

Free Driver

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, thesupport download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operatingsystem. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

2. If you have an external cdrom, then use this with any xp home cd to attempt repair/ repair installation/ re-installation.
3. unetbootin allows you to create a bootable usb from a cd image (or you could use it to make yourself a linux netbook).

Booting issues

Mini's doesn't come with an optical drive. Better go to a local technician to have your hard drive pulled out and important files extracted and saved on an external drive.

When the hard drive is installed back in your laptop, you may reinstall factory image by pressing or tapping F8 on the Dell logo.

- Select "Repair your computer" and press Enter.
- Click Next when you're in a page asking for the keyboard language options.
- Type your password when prompted.
- select Image Restore and click continue.

Your system will reinstall a new copy of the operating system it came pre-installed together with all the software included when you first got your machine.

Hope this helped... ^_^

Hello i have a dell mini 910 and it has no space

using an external HDD doesn't require dual booting.

First connect the external drive, and copy files to the drive that don't require and applications to be installed (MP3s, Avi Videos, Pictures)

Then you can delete the files from the HDD, this will immediately give a boost in performance. Generally, most games run a an Atom powered system don't take a great deal of space, so moving applications to the external drive likely would not be gratly beneficial as keeping data files there.

Dual booting by the way, is the process of installing 2 operating systems on a computer and being able to boot to more than one version. (Windows XP and Vista for example) of Windows and another OS (XP and Linux)

MS Office is copyrighted software, which cannot just be downloaded for free in a legal way. if you do not want to spend money on this soft, i suggest you download OpenOffice (http://download.openoffice.org/), which is freeware. the down side of the free software is that it is limited in it's functionalities.
