I recently incountered this problem regarding this driver it seems it wont work on dvd-r cd's but it could read only cd-r or cd-audio.before it was all fine it could read all types of cd i put on to it.iam using windows xp vista.pls help me regarding this matter.

i found when u burn too many cd,s on a dvd burner it stops burning dvd,s is this why ? buy a new one if its still new get ur money bk buy a different model : )
Does the light flash on the front when a disc is inserted or have you recently installed it as a Primary/Secondary optical drive? Plus, just as a matter of interest it will only read DVD's & read/write CD's.
Your problem could be down to a number of causes including a corrupt driver, where you will have to uninstall the driver by going into Device Manager, clicking the + sign in front of 'DVD/CD ROM drives,' right clicking on the Optical Drive in question, clicking properties/Driver Tab/Uninstall (Advanced).
This will remove a corrupt driver & when you restart your system the Hardware Manager will recognise the said Combo Drive & reinstall the driver.
If it is only unable to read DVD''s then you may require the necessary Codecs for your preferred Media Player, to support various file formats. I wish you the best of luck.
regarding you problem try to insert another dvd there might be a possibility that you combo drive is very sensitive that not able to read scratched disc or pirated cd.
It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :( it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.
