Printer HP PSC 1400 to run with Vista program

If you have lost the CD, go to the HP site here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=436453 and select your specific printer (1406, 1410, etc). Then select your OS. You will then see options for downloading the full software or ordering a copy of the CD.

If your computer doesn't have an optical drive, use the download option. The software can be moved from one computer to another on a USB flash drive.

As the 1400 doesn't appear in the list so make sure you check the model number.

Most of the drivers for the series are the same as will be the software.

You MUST obtain the VISTA version of that CD (if it isnt a vista driver CD) or you may go to the HP website and download a VISTA driver from there

If you're using VISTA, HP says there's a compatibility issue. They provide a workaround for scanning documents using Paint. If you need pdfs of your scanned documents, you can download a "save as pdf" program from Microsoft (if you have a licensed version), or find another converter program online (some free, others not).

Where do I get the solution center cd/rom?

I had this same problem when switching to our new pc and still running xp. I was told that the new pc was installed with the new version of the program and had to uninstall the new version and load the old from the cd in order to use the programs I was framiliar with. Check with HP tech support and have them help you through the uninstall.

Use Paint.
It's not ideal, but I can scan with my HP PSC 1205 running Vista when I use Paint. Just click 'file' then 'from Scanner or Camera'.
Works a treat.
