Gas range FGF376 oven wont light. "ON" light on control panel immediately dissapears after you set temp. This has progressively gotten worse and now it wont light at all. You used to be able to smack the control panel when the "ON" light came on and it would stay. What is required to activate the igniter?

If your ignitor looks real dull orange then that is what is wrong. It needs to be bright as the sun or it is weak.

SOURCE: Oven won't light on low settings (170), no trace gas smell.

Igniting bar located on the inside of the oven it is a rectangular piece with one or two screws. It is basically a heating element that also controls the gas. Change that ignitor and it should fix it no problem.

May be the heating coil is bust?
The control panel is in parallel usually so as long as the controls are getting power they will turn on. But if the coil is gone you wont get heat. If you want to try fixing it, you may need a multimeter, or a continuity tester.
