Condensing tumble dryer not running

When power is applied and dryer turned on, sounds as though motor is running but drum is not turning. If left on smell of burning developes. Have removed small panel at rear of dryer and I believe the drive belt for the drum is intact. Wondered if you could shed some light.

Has the belt shredded and wrapped itself around the shaft? try to manually rotate the drum to see if the belt is free and the motor shaft moves. it sounds like the motor is stuck and the smell is the uncirculated heat at the back. let me know your results.

Why is my tumble dryer making a loud banging noise when on its a white knight model CL3A

Most of the time a tumble dryer will work like a dream but, as with all appliances, occasionally there will be technical problems.
If your tumble dryer is making a banging, whining (or other strange noise) it's best to diagnose and sort out the problem. It could be the result of a number of things, but what you certainly don't want to do is ignore it.
Here are the most common reasons for your tumble dryer making odd noises.
Coins and keys
One of the most common reasons for a banging, rattling or clanking is keys or coins left in pockets - so always check them before you put any clothes in the tumble dryer. More often than not you won't hear anything until the dryer cycle is in full spin.
Uneven surfaces
If the dryer is vibrating or shaking during spinning, check to make sure the dryer's sitting on a level surface. If it's fitted with height adjusters on the front legs, adjust them accordingly to ensure the machine is level as this will often reduce or eliminate the banging sound.
Drum bearings
If the tumble dryer is noisy when its turning and the whole appliance is shaking and rumbling, it could be indicative of a problem with the drum bearings, which help the wheels turn freely and easily.
The drum
If the banging noise is continuous when the drum is turning then it might be problem with the drum itself. If the noise is a metallic one, it could be the result of the drum scraping on something inside the machine. You could always check the drum visually for any marks or dents.
Motor bearings
If the tumble dryer is emitting a high-pitched screaming or whining noise it could be a sign that the motor bearings are wearing out.
Tension pulley wheels
If there's a squeaking noise coming from the dryer it could be the result of wear on the tension pulley wheels. This occurs more frequently on older models...or try this link..

White knight gas tumble dryer

On most clothes dryers, whether gas or electric, the drum is rotated by a belt, which runs off a motor. The most common reason for it not to tumble is that the belt has broken.Someone needs to replace that belt. If, however, when you start it up , you do not hear a humming sound whilst pressing your ear to the top of the machine, the motor itself may not be turning, which could also be the problem. Be blessed.

Hotpoint TDC62p is making a buzzing/humming sound and the drum will not spin though it does move if you push it.

Either something is binding the blower wheel up or the motor is bad. The best thing is to take the front of the machine off to access the blower wheel to verify ifanything is indeed binding it.IF not read the next section.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Drier does not tumble but it still heats.

Hi,

Sound like the belt being broken or slipping badly, burn out motor, or worn support parts.
  • Dryer have a belt that rotate the drum, If the belt worn out or broken, it can not move the drum then you just need to replace it.
  • You can check motor by hearing buzzing sound, if the belt has the problem. If you do not hear any sound from the motor then you may have to replace it.
  • Try to move drum manually (by hand), if it is hard to turn then problem with the idler pulley, glides, or drum rollers.
I hope this will solve you problem

Good luck and have a nice day
Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

ELECTRIC DRYER WON'T TUMBLE

Possibly the belt assembly. if you open the door and try to turn the drum does it turn with a little resistance, noises? this model has rollers, pulley, and a four groove belt 92 1/4" , sometimes the pulley sticks after yrs of use, belts wear, drum misaligns. the humming should be the motor trying to work.

Whirlpool Ultimate care ii Dryer wont tumble

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:
Belt,
Motor,
Door switch.

Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.
If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

Remove the belt,
Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing,
Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.
