Is the needle inserted correctly? It should not be difficult to change it. Here are some reasons for thread breaking. OLD thread, cheap thread, wrong thread for material and wrong needle size for material. Incorrect tension for material being sewn. Needle bent or too old. Hope this helps :-)

When you thread your bobbin and put it in the case the thread should be on the left side of that little arm on the bobbin case. It allows the thread to slide off that arm.
Another issue could be your lower tension. You may need to loosen or tighten it.
I had the same issue and the above two things eliminated the problem.
