Hi well it could mean that your DVD player is dirty and needs to be clean or the disc that your trying to play is not compatible with DVD player could be a different region.

How to play movie

first thing you may want to check is to see if your disks play automatically. go to settings>system settings>disc auto start (its about mid way down). make sure that is marked "ON" If its not just press "X" on disc auto start and you should have option to turn it "OFF" and "ON". with that set every time you put in a disc it should auto start.
if that doesn't start automatically the title of your BD should be under VIDEO and it should be the one on the bottom. if it doesn't show up there you should check to make sure the disk is able to be read. try it with another DVD/BD if those show up and your first disk don't than you know you have a faulty disk. hope this helps

I have a friend who has a PIONEER Bluray Player BDP LX52.Despite having updated it to the latest firmware(3.71)it is not playing the RED(Morgan Freeman,Bruce Willis)Bluray.Sometimes he gets the menu and...

The firmware update needs to be done again.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the BD player cannot read or play a disc:
IMPORTANT: Prior to following the steps below, go to the Drivers & Software section of the Pioneer eSupport Web site to check for available firmware updates. If a firmware update is available, it will be posted there with a list of improvements over the original or any previous firmware version. Some disc playback issues may be resolved by ensuring the BD player has the most current firmware installed.

  1. Ensure the Easy Setup procedure has been completed on the BD player. NOTE: Can't play DISC may display on the LCD screen if the Easy Setup procedure was not completed first.
  2. Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the BD player. NOTE: Consult the instruction manual of the BD player for a list of compatible discs.Manuals are available online through the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.
  3. Select BD players may require that a USB memory device has been properly inserted into the EXT slot of the player prior to playing the movie. If the BD player being used does not have an EXT input, skip this step. NOTE: The USB memory device may need to be re-formatted to FAT32 format prior to inserting it into the player.
  4. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  5. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  6. Wipe the top of the disc tray using a soft dry cloth before placing the disc on the tray. Attempt to play the disc again.
  7. Attempt to play another disc. Remove the disc from the BD player.
  8. Turn off the BD player.
  9. Unplug the power cord of the BD player from the electrical outlet.
  10. Let the player remain without power for 1 minute.
  11. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  12. Turn on the BD player.
  13. Insert the disc into the BD player.
  14. Attempt to play the disc.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required

Blue ray player wont play blue ray ''Kung Fu Panda'' disc.

i fixed this exactly as previous posted solutions, however a couple of points.
a) recordable CDs work if you don't have a DVD burner.
b) I didn't have a CD burner that would do an "image burn", I downloaded a free copy of "Express Burn" and that worked fine. The disk needs to be "finalised" or "fixated", it should do this automatically, or it may be a tick box selection.
c) I got a "No DWLD 09" when I put the disk into the player. I found this was an incompatibility with the CD-R (Maxwell) I was using. I changed to JVC and it worked fine.
