Trying to reinstall windows XP on Dell Dimension 8300....cant' start up using the CD drive...

Inpect the computers preexisting operating systems to ascertain compartibility to windows XP. Only XP computers would recognise XP operatign systems. Attemptign to install windows XP onto alternate system either windows 98, 2000, mellanuim or Vista XP or 7 is least achieveable unless the old system were erased or new empty storage disk drive were acquired and replaced.

My Compaq Presario 700 CM2130 failed to boot one day out of the blue. It just gave me an error message saying Operating System Not Found. I put in the disk for Windows XP and after a few minutes of loading...

When you get to the BIOS window, do you get a message saying that is going to shut down in some period of time of does it just shut down?

Here is my best guess and solution. I believe you've got a worm virus. If you have nothing that you want on this hard drive, and you've got a full install Windows XP disk, I'd do a full install with a complete format, not a quick format, FAT32, if you can, NTFS, if you can't and reinstall Windows XP.

Can't reload windows xp. Keeps shutting down???? Acer 2700 Laptop

this happens when you have errors with the hard drive not responding to the new boot or drivers not responding. is this a clean install or a restore? if you are not using the original xp disk the machine came with you may get these errors. the blue screen usually has a message in it. let me know what it says if you get a second.

Windows shut down unexpectedly, and when I rebooted, I had lost all my icons, and start tool bar. How to get them back?

  1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
  2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
  3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. To Repair Install, press ENTER
    note.gifTo Repair Install, press ENTER
\r\n'); FP_changeProp(/*id*/'layer1',0,'style.borderStyle','double','style.borderWidth','3px','style.padding','5px','style.backgroundColor','#F9F4D5','style.backgroundImage','url(\'edgbkgnd4.gif\')'); FP_changeProp(/*id*/'layer1',0,'style.visibility','visible')" onclick="FP_changeProp(/*id*/'layer1',0,'style.visibility','hidden')" width="15" border="0" height="21" /> do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
  4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
  5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot read
  6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.take care god bless

My home pc trouble in windows xp professional

Hi chirutha,

Which version of Windows are you running? I would suggest running System Restore to a point maybe a week ago and then trying it again. You can find System Restore from your Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools menu. System Restore for Windows is non-destructive and won't delete any data files (music, pictures, documents) that you've put on the computer. It's also reversible.

You can also access System Restore directly from booting into Safe Mode (after the system POST startup messages run when the computer is booted up, press F8 until the Windows Boot Menu comes up and select Safe Mode).

If you can't power your computer down, hold your breath and then hold the main power button for five seconds and it will shut down.
