Canon G9 reads E16. What should I do?

An E16 is an error code on this camera that will cause it to turn on for a moment when you press the on / off button in camera mode but since the error is there, it will quickly turn right back off and the lens goes back in. When it happens on a G9 it's usually from a short in the camera. E16 Error code (on all canon compacts) means that there is something wrong with the lens mechanism and it cannot contract/extract/focus etc.

Canon suggests removing the battery, and leaving it out for about half an hour. Make sure that the battery is fully charged before reinstalling it.

Also if you have had the camera for over a year, the battery may need to be replaced.

If this does not work, the camera will need to be sent to Canon for repair.
