Usually that indicates either a bad card or a card that needs to be reformatted. Use a card reader to reformat the card in your computer and then try it in the camera. If it recognizes the card in the camera then use the camera to format the card again to its requirements. If that fails, try a different memory card.

Press the <MENU> button and select [ (Set up)] using or .
Select (Format) using or and press the <SET> button.

Its possible the card is corrupt. You can try reformatting it on another device like a card reader on your computer. Also try a a different/new memory card. Thank you, Lee
you may have a problem with the memory card. it may be corrupt and sometimes when they are corrupt there is no way to fix them. lets try somethings first. how often do you reformat your card? i would suggest everytime you are clearing all of your pictures off. the more times you use it the more often you should reformat. always make sure you back up photos you want so you dont delete them. also if you could use your Sony card in a computer.. whether you have one at home that has a memory card slot or you can also run up to a local walmart/target.. whatever place that has a digital photo center.. and see if it registesrs that you have a memory card. a pc is best because you'll be able to tell if it can register your mem card. if it does try to reformat it in your sony camera. if this gives you an error again i would suggest seeing if you could reformat it in your computer. once you do that stick it back in your camera and reformat it to your sony camera. one more thing. if you have another sony camera lying around or have a friend that can use the same card i would try it in their camera first just to see it it will do the same thing. this should fix the problem if not then i would suggest purchasing another card. doing this will show you that its most likely your card on its last breath.. sorry but i can assure you its not the camera!
A card access error may indicate that an xD-Picture Card memory card is in a write-protected condition. xD-Picture Card memory cards have a special protection feature to ensure that your pictures are kept safe.
NOTE:
During this condition, you can still use the printer for printing and saving photos from the xD-Picture Card to a secure location, such as the computer hard drive.
To resolve this error, try the following:
Reinsert the xD-Picture Card memory card into your camera and turn on the camera. In most cases, the camera automatically makes the necessary changes.
Reformat the xD-Picture Card memory card. See the documentation that came with your camera for instructions on reformatting the memory card. Note that this process erases the pictures currently saved to your memory card. To save these pictures, transfer them to the computer before reformatting the memory card. Once you reformat the memory card, transfer those photos back to the memory card using the computer.
