This solution worked for another person trying to do the same thing.
I hope it helps you.
Go to add or remove programs in the control panel, on Windows 7, just go to start, control panel, and then uninstall a program. Find Apple Software Update on the list, and click on repair. Once that is done, try to download iTunes again and it should work.

When trying to download itunes keep getting a report that says ''windows installer encountered errors and can not configure itunes.'' I am using a 64 bit PC with Windows Vista Home Premium. Thanks.

It means that the installer you downloaded is not compatible with the version of Windows you're trying to install it to. Make sure to visit iTunes.com and select the right installer for it to work.

Ive tried downloading itunes but it keeps on saying some error has occured and when it does download it says itunes has encountered an error so they need to close

iTunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best result, turn off compatibility mode of iTunes before you open it.

2. Click Start, type regedit, then press Enter.
3. Navigate to this Registry location:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
4; Its better you clean/repair Windows registry with RegInOut.
4. Look in the main pane for a key that refers to iTunes. If you find one, delete it, then exit the Registry.
5. Start iTunes. The offending message should be gone!

Itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs/DVDs missing where can i get them? Bill

It seems that some users installing iTunes 8 on Windows systems are encountering an error message:

“ERROR: The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing… Please re-install iTunes”

iTunes uses GEAR software drivers for importing and burning CD’s & DVD’s. Re-installing (or installing the latest GEAR drivers seems to fix this problem. No reboot required for this install.

You can get the current GEAR drivers here: http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm

If this does not fix your problem download a fresh installer for iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Uninstall iTunes, reboot, & then do a fresh install of iTunes.

Hope This Help You
