U may not have the appropriate codecs. Kindly check the extension of the video files and search for the codecs, download them and it would be a walk in the park ....

I have the above model camcorder ,the playback on my laptop with windows vista is terribly poor jumping all the time/distorted with jvc software provided or on windows media player it plays but audio is...

Are you playing the video directly form the hard disk in the camcorder or are you transferring the file to the laptop first? Reading high volumes of data via USB is slow and the PC may not be able to read the data fast enough from the camcorder. Try copying the video to the laptop first, then play it back.

connect vcam to pc via usb cable: then copy thru windows explorer

on pc bottom left: click START>>then click My Computer; win explorer opens
on the right portion you'll see>> Hard Disk Drives, etc.;
then >>Devices with Removable Storage- the location where most probably you'll find your >>hdd vcam- w/some ID- brand?
Double click on it, locate your video/picture files and copy/paste to >> my Documents/my videos (my pictures?) located above Hard Disk Drives.

Can't transfer videos from JVC Everio camcorder onto my MAC

Share: How to import .tod files from JVC Everio HDD Camcorder to iMovie?

Requirements: iMovie (Part of the iLife 08 package)

Step 1: Connect the Everio to the Mac (Via USB)
Make sure you are powering the Everio from the mains before connecting your JVC Everio Camcorder.

Step 2: Playback on PC
Select “Playback on PC” on the Everio, once connected you will see the Everio HDD symbol appear on the desktop. The video files on the Everio are stored in the SD Folder/PRG***/MOV***.MOD.

Step 3: Open iMovie
Once you open iMovie, you will see that it recognizes the Everio straight away and will attempt to import your video.

You are now ready to use iMovie to edit your video files.

If need change .tod files to common video formats like mov, mp4, m4v, mpg, mpeg, dv, flv, avi, wmv, 3gp, mkv, mp3, aac, wma, m4a, etc. Mod Tod Video Converter for Mac is a good choice. The program can also convert mod tod to ipod, mod tod to iphone, tod to apple tv, tod to blackberry and more devices!

Can only pull up my JVC video files withing the JVC software,

You mean you have camera files in PC and can't playback through media player? if, yes...
PC needs video-audio codec to play these files.

Download Colde2K Media Codec Pack and have video and audio via media player.

Playback on PC has no sound

Are you playing the video back through the camcorders utility ? Sometimes by clicking on the file through windows explorer you will get the picture but no sound, this happens for the Sony camcorder but is fixed by running the playback through the motion picture browser application supplied with the camcorder.
