Kenmore over the oven does not heat , the exhaust fan stopped working, but the light works, timer works, and turntable still works. What's wrong?

Most likely you have a magnetron problem. Easy to replace (DYI) but make sure the high voltage capacitor is fully discharged first against the case.

SOURCE: Everything works but no heating?

With inside light and turntable on, louder sound, and no heat, this is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

SOURCE: I have a Whirlpool MH6130XEQ-0 microwave that doesn't heat food

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and your magnetron is still under the part warranty, but you would have to pay labor.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

If within the magnetron portion of the warranty (5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (1 year), the manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If nothing else, you can save about $50-75 if you remove it from the wall and take it to a Whirlpool-authorized servicer.

You can find your nearest Whirlpool/Maytag-authorized servicer here.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

My microwave is not heating food although everything else seems to be working. What do you think is wrong? Would this be a costly repair?

Sounds like the magnetron tube has burned out so you don't get power. It's the heart of the microwave. Time to shop for another, not worth repairing.

Electrical short /pop sound & now it doesn't heat. Everything else works. Any idea what went out.

The signs are not always evident, but from the description the magnetron has failed.

Microwave model MV-1510M is not heating, also sounds louder. Everything else is working, fan, lights, turntable etc..

If everything is working normally, except for heating, the likely cause is the magnetron.  Microwaves can be dangerous to work on, as the site below points out.  If you have an ohmmeter, it is possible to check the magnetron, but be certain to follow the precautions outlined at the webpage:

Does not heat up properly. Seems it lost it's

Assuming the turntable works maybe your magnetron isn't working properly. Cheaper to buy new microwave then to fix it.

Have GE JVM2050 over the range microwave, which stopped heating food and water since this morning. All other functions including light, key pad, clock, turntable work normal. The magnetron sound also

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00

GE JVM1440BD Won't Heat

If it making a louder than normal humming or grunting sound when operating, than it's a sure bet it's the MAG.
