I have a new Sony DRU-840a that gives me a blue screen (with various suggestions such as seeking driver or BIOS updates) when I insert a blank disc for recording. I have used it successfully on only a couple of occasions (with the Nero software supplied with it); it has never allowed me to back up any playlists in iTunes (same blue screen). So, it seems to be intermittent. I have successfully made data DVD's using Roxio. I've checked all the media and system requirements, and I appear to be more than fine. Sony Support told me to buy an new IDE cable, which proved to be a waste of $25.
I have the same problem with my sony so i tried various liton burners and they did they did the same blue screens. I tried Dell for the suggested BIOS up date but their latest was older than the one I had so I didn't install it. I suspect the problem is more with Nero than anything else.
My dvd burner do not burn any dvd and just read dvd and can copy a dvd on hard disk

Sony 840A will recognize a pre-recorded disk, but gives message "insert blank disk" when trying to write to it. Have tried several brands and types of disk with same error message.
