Instalaion

Hi there,

You don't actually need a driver. All cd/dvd drives are plug and play. All you need to do is plug it all in to your system, turn it on, and Windows will do the rest. Once Windows has installed it. You can update everything from here:
http://sony.storagesupport.com/product/112#drivers

Hope this solves your problem

I have window xp my dvd burner worked fine before now it doesnt

What do you mean "it just stays there"? Can you be a bit more specific? The writing speed doesn't really mean anything apart from being able to burn quicker.

The "drivers" for the sony dru 710a can be downloaded from here:
http://sony.storagesupport.com/product/112#drivers

I would also update the Firmware version too.

Hope that works

Tim

How to Install Sony DRU-710A DVD-RW

Hi there,

Cd/dvd drives don't actually require a driver to run. They use "class filter drivers" which are supplied by a burning program like Nero or NTI. These "class filter drivers" only add functionality to the drive. Windows just uses a generic driver "MSCDEX" to run them.

A couple of things to try:

Uninstall the drive. Open Device Manager, click on the + sign next to CD/DVD ROM drives, right click on the drive and select uninstall. Exit and restart your system. When windows loads, it will recognise a hardware change, and will ask if you want to install. Before you click anything, insert the disc that came with the drive (if you have one). This should then install, if not, let windows search. If windows can't find anything, select "I will choose the driver manually" and look for your drive in the list.

Another thing to do, is download the most current Chipset drivers for your motherboard (which I would recommend anyway, even if the above worked).

Update the Firmware version and the internal drivers for your drive. These can be found here: http://sony.storagesupport.com/product/112#drivers

Also, update windows to the latest Service Pack (SP3 for XP and SP1 for Vista) if you haven't got them already.

If you have Vista, did you recently update to SP1 via Windows Update? If the answer is yes, please let me know.

Hope these solve your problem

Regards,
Tim

Sony DRU 710 not writing DVDs or CDs

as with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking Sony for any firmware updates, but first:- Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall. Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays

Problems recording DVD-R 16X

Try this download page to update your firmware from 25/10/05, so if you bought your writer before this date maybe this will work, otherwise buy 8x discs. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#710 The faster the discs are burned the more chance of errors there are, you should write at slower speeds for better quality.

Video and words not in sync

Most of the time sync problems boild down to a few key things. Firstly, make sure your computer has the required ram/processing speed to accomlish a smooth movie. Make sure all other programs are closed while you are trying to watch a movie. Secondly, some dvd software needs the correct codecs. Usually it comes with them, so unless you're using an inferior program to watch the dvd, this shouldnt be the case. Try playing it in another program to test this. Third, you shold do a firmware update on your drive. You should be able to go to the company's website and find an update to your drive. You should also be able to google for the proper firmware update.
