If you hear and smell gas but a match won't light the burners, the gas is escaping before it gets to the burners. Follow the gas from its source until you find it's leaking out. Don't use matches to try to fine it. soapy water can work. Escaping gas will blow bubbles.
The wiring harness for the burners sound like is shot! I would think about buying a new one! have You tried to light the burners with a lighter or match to see if they will ignite? If so,replace the wiring harness, over time they go bad and short out! If You Can use lighter to ignite burner I would use the long nosed ones like You start charcoal with till The new wiring harness arrives! You will save the hair on Your arm that way! LOL! Good Luck!
from I review I found it might be this...Simple replacement of Glow Bar igniter requires removal of entire front panel with many screws
so sounds like your igniter might be shot - it heats up to ignite the burners - easy fix - get a long torch lighter and just light the gas after turning it on -
Hello, In addation to the spark do you hear th egas flowing as well? if you do hear the gas and can light it with a match/bbq lighter but it doesn't light with the spark,it could be cleaned by using a safety pin/paper clip and push through the holes where the flame burns all around the burner(s) also steel wool will clean the burner.
Some igniters need batteries. Try calling the company and asking them. They might also be able to sell you a replacement igniter. In the mean time you can always start the grill with a long lighter or by lighting a stick and putting it near the burners before turning on the gas.
I have one of the kitchenaide gas ranges and if the burner cap is not set on PERFECTLY straight, the gas doesn't flow properly and will not ignite. Try lifting and replacing the cap back down on the burner and see if this solves it.
