On my DW988 the ring would go past 21 a couple of clicks to a symbol that looks like a yellow T and that would be hammer mode when I press down to drill.

Can't engage drill or hammer settings on de walt dc 925 xrp

Try turning the ring to 2 or 3 and run the drill holding the chuck so the clutch slips then try turning it to drill setting. Also try to do it in different speed settings. If not it sounds like a fault in the gear module. It might just be a metal clip just under the clip in side. Undo the 4 screws holding the gearbox onto the housing and carefully remove it, you might see the fault or loads of dirt that needs cleaning. Go to http://www.2helpu.com/world/map.aspx for a drawing.

Type your problem for a solution...

I'm answering without knowing which model you have but, there are some Dewalt drills that will go into hammer and/or drill mode only if the speed selector is in 2nd gear. The torque settings are accessable only in driver mode. Short of that you may have broken parts in the transmission that can only be repaired by replacing the transmission.

Hi i cant move my torque setting its just stuck on hammer and drill, speed ie 1 to 3 is okay but i cant get it to move to 1 to 21 is this a common problem thanks

You have an internal issue in the housing. Sometimes they will move while slowly operating the drill. If that does not work, the housing has to come apart, more specifically the head.

My chuck would not rotate,(Porter cable 14.4V Hamm drill) but the motor would turn as normal as I pressed the switch. There was a grinding noise as the motor turned which I first heard when I attempted to...

It sounds like you were between gears. When you are in neither low or high, you are sort of in neutral. Normally it isn't a big deal. It happens to me occasionally, and I do what you did. You should be OK.

I have a Ridgid 24V LI Hammer Drill. It was working fine and then suddenly it has lost lost torque. It sounds fin and seems to run fine but anything beyond screwing in a wood screw it just clicks like...

Make sure the speed lever is not in between speeds, if not, time to get a new clutch/tranny or take it back to Home Depot if its new. I think it comes in one piece. Please rate me.

I have an 18v dewalt hammer drill dc925 and cant get it on the hammer setting?

It's one of the settings on the clutch ring. Or do you mean it won't turn there?

The motor turns but the clutch will not engage

Take the drill out of the hammer drill setting when in reverse.  Using the drill setting with the speed on 1 will give the power to free the bit.  If the clutch will not engage, GENTLY but firmly switch between forward and reverse.  This should work just fine.   I hope this solution brings you success!  Best Regards,  Michael Mittelsdorf
