I started the software installation of Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 and choosed not to install Windows Life Messenger. In the middle of installation I got the error "Insufficient free space". I've disabled anti-virus & firewall as said in MS docs and also tried installer downloaded from MS site, but the problem persist. I've 108Gb of free space so it isn`t cause of error. When I tried to install Windows Life Messenger I got message that it can`t be installed on server systems (I`m using Windows Server 2003 Standart Edition SP1). So can anybody suggest how to install the f---ing cam?
I purchaased MS Lifecam from Walmart at a bargain price of $50.00 yesterday. I quickly installed the s/w on my windows 2003 XP under 5 mins. The camera worked for exactly 20 mins. I opted out from installing the Live Messanger ( don't need it). However the s/w crashed within 20 mins, complaining of a fatal error, which it could not Debug, but insisted on sending off the report to MS..which I declined. After trying to reload the s/w on the same computer for 3 more times, which involved remove and re-install..I finally gave up on the 2003 XP. I then tried to load the s/w on my windows 7 laptop..got the same error message. After messing with it for at least 5 hours, and ruining half my day, I returned the product back to walmart and got my money back. What a scam!! The MS Support site tells you to reinstall windows 7 and then try to reload the d- -n!! s/w again. What kind of Freaking solution is that??!! BTW I have plenty of space on laptop, 80 gigs..so space was not an issue.
I have not being able to install and use my lifecam vx-3000 suffering for 1 month because of the same error, "either you do not have enough space on disk or error 1603" if I remember well. I could not find any helpuful web answer to solve my problem.
Recently I tried to install Skype update v. 3.8 and I got the message that the installation could not continue for possible causes, one of wihch was "windows installer not working or missing".
So I downloaded from Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 for my version of windows XP 64bit "WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x64" and I restarted the system.
Then I installed Skype and it worked.
THEN I DOWNLOADED THE DRIVER FOR my LIFECAM VX-3000 v 1.4, the driver installed properly and the webcam finally worked.
You need to download the Windows Installer version that is specific for your version of Windows. It should work also for the different versions of lifecam, VX-1000, 3000, 6000.
I think that the CD containing the driver "LifeCam v 1.3" coming with the webcam was defective and I believe it corrupted Windows Installer in my system.
Hope it helps in fixing your problem

Usually answered in minutes!
I also tried it on my laptop with WinXP Pro SP1. After 15 minutes software installed succesfully, but the cam recorded only sound, created empty video files and no photos at all. Also the picture from it in Microsoft LiveCam software was always black regardless of its resolution or settings. But in the Audio & Video Settings wizard from it worked perfectly! I decided to return it to the shop and change to Logitech one.
I NEED THE FREAKING SOFTWARE
I keep getting error message when trying to install lifecam VX6000 on windows XP
