How to install sound driver of asus p5gd1

NEED TO KNOW IF YOUR USING THE SOULD CARD BUILT ON THE MOTHERBOARD OR A PCI card if your using a pci card you have to disable the on board driver, if you want the onboard sound card to work you have to go to bios and turn on sound card, once it's turned on reboot an you should not need the driver unless the biso battery went dead, if thats the case you can go to http://www.asus to download the driver.

ASUS P5GD1 motherboard purchased in 2005 - I can't find manual - need to connect a 1TB SATA drive - I have 1 IDE 320 GB drive and a Plextor DVD burner and a LG CD burner connected now - Problem is - can't...

Be prepared as this is a lengthy solution.
I like to give a complete solution, to try to avoid possible errors.

As requested here is the Asus P5GD1 motherboard manual, (Users Manual),

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

The above is Asus Support, and the Downloads page.

On this page, go to the upper left corner under the heading Download, (In white)

In the box underneath that states - Input Model to Search, put your mouse cursor in the box, left-click once, LEAVE your mouse cursor in the box.

Type P5GD1

In the next box down where it states - Select Category, left-click on the blue down arrow, on the right side of the box.

In the drop down menu, left-click on Manual.
Now go right below this box, and left-click on
Search Info.

At first it will come up with a page that states - No info
Give it a second or so, and Manual files will be listed.

There are three model versions listed of the Asus P5GD1
Left-click right on the appropriate model.
You stated simply P5GD1, so that is what I clicked on.

A small window will come up. Please select your operating system.

Left-click on the blue down arrow, to the right of the
Select OS box.
Left-click on WinXP, in the drop down menu.
Now left-click on Search.

Scroll the page down towards the bottom.
You want Version e1745

(There IS a newer version listed. Version e1673.
Date is 2004/06/29
Suggest you Do Not click on this one!
I just did, and it tried to download a LGA 775 processor installation update!)

Go below, and left-click on Global (DLM)
Type the characters you see in the box given.
(For the letters that you see, TYPE capital letters. Won't work otherwise)

Now click on Submit.

This is a PDF file download. After you click on Global (DLM), you may not see anything happening for a few seconds. The file is downloading in the background.

You will see a download progression bar. Let the file download all the way before looking through it.
Otherwise you may break the download connection.

I took you this way to avoid possible issues with downloading. Sometimes the servers that Asus uses, are 'Less Than'.
If I gave you the direct PDF file name, it may not have downloaded for you.

You can save this PDF file to your computer. This way you can also burn it to CD disk.

(For easy access anytime you want it, and also to delete it off of your computer, to save storage space on the harddrive)

To Save:

In the top header of the PDF file are icons. You want to click on the Floppy Disk icon. This is the second icon from the left.

If you hover your mouse cursor over the Floppy Disk icon, it will briefly reveal,
'Click to save this file to your computer or another location'

After you click on the Floppy Disk icon a small window will come up.
Save a copy...

At the bottom of the window you will see the heading, File name: and a box to the right of it, with
e1745_p5gd1.pdf ,in it.

That's the file name you will be looking for in your computer, or on a CD disk.
You can add to this file name. You CANNOT change the file name.

To add:
Put your mouse cursor in the box, right after the f in .pdf
Left-click once.
(May be twice for some PDF files. Wasn't for this one. Whatever happens, make sure the blue highlight is gone, and the file name is still there)

Make one space with your spacebar, type Asus P5GD1 Mobo Manual. (Mobo = Motherboard)
Makes it Much easier to find.

Go below to the right, and click on Save.

Depending on where you have your downloads set to go to, this will go to your My Documents folder, or to your desktop screen.

(My Documents for WinXP. Documents for Vista.
Could also go to a sub-folder in My Documents.
- Downloads)

When you see the file name, Double-click right on it to open the file.

Download bios and flash

Try Asus update first, found here: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/Asusupdt60301.zip

It should check your current BIOS and download the newest one and install it automatically. If that doesn't work for you then you will need to update the BIOS from a bootable floppy disk using the two files found below:

The BIOS is here: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5GD1/P5GD114.zip

You also need the BIOS update tool found here: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/AFUDOS221.zip
