This may take you awhile to do, but once you get to it you may find a lot more than that down there. You have to remove the back on most all dryers. If the lint trap is on top, there is a metal chute that lint and other objects fall down.Remove the back and you will see what I am talking about.Once this is done, it is fairly easy to remove the collars that go down to the lint hose. You will then be able to clean all of the lint build up down below that gets by the trap.
Good luck, Sincerely, shastalaker7

The lint filter does not fit properly in the lint trap. The corner of the filter catches an item of clothing and twists it. I have to check it several times to clear the item away. I assume this...

We have the same model and experience the same thing. The way I fix it is to remove the filter, then with a flash light I look down into the lint trap. You will notice that lint has built up in the track where the lint filter sits. I use a wooden skewer to run along the track and lift out the lent. Hope that helps

Takes extra time to dry the clothes.

You may need to clean out your lint trap. Not just the part that you pull out. I'm talking about the entire tunnel. Even though we empty the lint trap regularly there's a lot that gets left behind and over time can become a fire hazard. Your arms and hands cannot reach everywhere in there. For this you can attach an old sock or rag to a coat hanger that has been opened up. Go down in there a couple of times with it. You'll be surprised at how much stuff comes out. To further help this problem you can also pull dryer out and check that the vent hose in back is clear and free of debris. Cleaning the trap screen (the part you pull out to empty the lint) with HOT water occasionally will also clear residue that has built up from using dryer sheets. Over time that residue will make those tiny screen holes smaller & smaller & smaller. All of this can affect your dryer's performance.

I hope this info was helpful to you. Good luck!

Whirlpool gs dryer and while cleaning the lint trap a peice of papaer about 4x6 fell into the trap -how to remove? Can I still dry clothes w/o starting a fire?

Please DO NOT try using it with the paper in it. You will need to remove the back cover and disassemble the lint chute to remove the paper. When the back is removed you will see the chute assembly on the left side about 8 screws hold it together. There are 2 screws at the top under the flap that covers the lint trap that need to be removed also.

Lint fell down the lint trap. How do I get it

Luckily, dryers are light. Best thing to do is pull it out until you can remove the back cover. (unplug it first) Then vacuum and clean all the dust and lint you can. This should be a yearly thing at least anyway. Replace the back plug it in and slid it back. I do mine every 6 months or so.

Lint fell back into lint trap. how can i get it out? already looked in back.

An appliance store can sell you a brush that is attached to a long wire. It is made specifically for removing lint from dryers. I have seen them at walmart and other places but for sure at an appliance store. Good luck.

Sponge fell into lint trap. Is there something I can buy to put down the lint trap to try and get it out?

Surely you should be able to remove lint trap, or you would not be able to clean it!!!!.
Otherwise try a piece of wire with a hook on the end , and retrieve it that way.

Increased drying time; removal of lint behind tumbler ???

I have a top loading Kenmore High capacity dryer that is over 10 years old, it has been working very well, unfortunately when cleaning the lint filter my wife dropped a piece of paper down the lint duct hole. The paper evidently fell to the bottom of the lint duct. I am unable to reach the paper from the top of the dryer where the lint filter is inserted. The dryer now makes a grinding type noise when it is turned on. Can you tell me how to reach the paper and remove it
