Computer off, unplugged from power, case open. De-Static yourself. Take the new stick of ram, and place it in Slot 1 (DDRII 1. Closest to processor. Not trying to insult your intelligence, just don't want to 'Leave any stone unturned')
Slot 2 is empty.
Press the Power On button in, hold it in for a count of 5 seconds, then let go. Do this procedure two more times.
Plug the computer back into power, wait 1 Minute.
Turn the computer on.
Still no?
Hold the Power On button in for ten seconds until the computer turns off. Wait 1 minute. Turn the computer on again.
No? You have a bad stick of ram, or an incompatible one.
If it's THE same stick of ram, from THE same manufacturer, it's Bad.
If it's a stick of compatible ram according to spec's,
(DDR2 at 667MHz, Voltage 1.8 Volts, Cas Latency5, NON-ECC, Unbuffered, 128Meg x 64),
then it's a Bad stick of ram.
If it doesn't have the above specifications, it's an Incompatible stick of ram.
If it does work ,suspect problems with Slot 2 on the board.
Installing a second RAM corrupts the operating system. The reason behind this is that the OS, when installed, detects the hardware present and optimizes the settings for it; in short it is hardware dependent. When he OS 'sees' that a new RAM has been installed it just cannot load the appropriate settings for it.
First, verify that you have installed the RAM correctly by checking it listed in the BIOS.
Then, remove this new RAM, back-up your data, re-install RAM and re-install the operating system. Everything will work fine.
The new RAM module could be faulty or the second memory slot is faulty.
Try removing the original 1Gb memory module and inserting the new memory module in its place to see if the computer boots up normally. If it doesn't then then new memory module is faulty.

But I am not getting a POST and that has nothing to do with the OS. Usually when the comp POSTS up I get a beep. But not when I install the 2nd RAM. I get nothing and the comp just runs with no video.
I am currently running off the new installed RAM i bought. IT runs fine in the first bank. Just the problem exists when I put that RAM in the second bank.
Computer is working fine when RAM is in Slot 1. I placed the newly bought RAM in slot one and computer works fine. Like I said just does not want to post when I add second stick of RAM in. The RAM is the exact same as the original. I am suspecting that slot 2 is not working properly.
