I HAVE A JOHN DEERE L118 RIDING MOWER AND TODAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE MOWER JUST STOPPED MOVING.I HAVE NO LEAKS OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THE BELT IS NOT THAT LOOSE. THE LINKAGE IS ALL GOOD AND TIGHT. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT THAT FAST ?

The drive shaft could of snapped. Mine did the same thing and the repair shop reckon they tried to get a new shaft but couldnt. Two different size shafts and if they get one from America and its wrong they cant return it. About $2000 for a new Transmission. Have been unable to find a second hand one.

yes,,, they just go bang,,if its striped the drive key they just stop,
have a look at the pully ends if you can turn one with out nothing moveing the key has striped take off the pully and replace the woodruff key,,easy to fix some times?,

My John deere l118 riding mower goes slower and slower. suggestions please

Firstly remove the battery and battery tray and clean all grass and debris from around the hydrostatic drive and cooling fan. Secondly check the drive belt idler pulley, arm and spring for free travel. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

check drive belt tension when m/c is off.remember OFF! if too loose,refer to manual.
