This particular drill/driver has a keyless locking chuck. Apart from suggesting you read the manual, you grip the black plastic part of the chuck and turn it anti clockwise (when it's facing you)

I can't get the release collar to release the bit from the drill.

probably need to put the bit in a vice and pull the release collar right back and use a hammer to hit the bit holder to move it
I suspect that you have used the wrong bit for the drill
there are at least 2 differences on the market and some generic bits cause this problem

Drill bit stuck in ryobi impact drill

Put the bit in a vise and try to turn the drill to release the bit. You will need to put a wrench on the area of the drill that's holding the bit and do the turning by the wrench.

I have a Hitachi WH 18 DFL cordless impact driver, which I love. I was doing a little bit of heavy drilling, and now the drill bit is stuck. The sleeve extends as if to release the bit, but the bit do

My guess is that the bit twisted a little in the bit holder so the steel ball is bound. If the collar moves you could try a slide puller on the bit and see if you can impact it out with the slide puller. Or you could take the bit holder apart. There is a retaining ring that holds it all together right on top. Pull that off and a washer, spring and the collar will come off. Becarefull to watch for the steel balls on the spindle. They WILL fall out! Now hopefully the bit will come out. If not it may need to be twisted in the oposite direction that it got stuck when you were using it to break it free. Hope that helps and good luck!

How do you release the bits to change sizes

It is a keyless chuck. You should be able to grab the main body of the chuck and turn it to the left to release the bit. You can also hold the main body of the chuck and run the tool slowly in reverse whcih will also release the bit.

I have drilled a 1 inch hole in my concrete basement wall. I cannot release the bit from the drill. The chuck won't turn by hand to release the bit.

Good Afternoon, Ladooudep55:

I hope you have got your bit back, but if not, remount the drill chuch onto the bit, and drill in forward without pushing the bit. If it still won't move, You can gently wobble the drill to enlarge the hole and retrieve the bit.

The other method is alternating light hammer taps with compressed air. It will make lots of grit dust.

If the hole around the bit is wet, you may have drilled into an iron pipe, if it smells it was the sewer drain. You will have to decide if you want to replace the pipe section or run an epoxy patch once you have retrieved the bit.

Cannot remove drill bit from self locking chock

If you are having trouble turning the chuck to remove the drill bit just wrap a cloth around it a couple of times and use a pair of adjustable channel lock pliers to give yourself a mechanical advantage. If you have loosened the chuck but can't remove the bit just clamp onto the bit with a pair of vise grips and tap them a few times with a hammer while a friend holds the drill for you.

Keyless Chick will not Release - Hitachi DS18DMR

It's best not to use the drill power and your hand to try and release. Or tighten for that matter.

Set the drill down, and try using both hands on the clutch.

If that don't work, try using vise-grips or channel locks.

If that don't work, whip out of the WD-40 and let soak and then try again.

Hitachi Quick Release Drill problem

put a box end wrench 7/16 or a 3/8 over the bit. put the bit in a vise. Lightly tap the wrench with a hammer while holding the relase sleeve back. usually need 2 people. 1 to hold the drill and the sleeve and 1 to hold the wrench and hammer. try a little tranny fluid or wd40 in the chuck. don't use the painted bits. use onle the chrome ones
