I'm having trouble downloading photos to my computer with the software that came with my camera. What can I do?
Fuji FinePix F460 Digital Camera I am unable to get pictures to download from my camera to the computer. I have installed the necessary software and the computer recognises the camera but the pictures will not automatically or otherwise load onto my pc
I downloaded the software provided with the camera, but when I plug the camera into my pc I get a 'communication error' message. And that's it. I feel like I've been had; I 've had 5 digital cameras in the past and they were WAY user friendly.I downloaded the software provided with the camera, but when I plug the camera into my pc I get a 'communication error' message. Can you right click the camera drive icon and "explore" then physically drag and drop picture files (probably .jpg's) into a folder/directory on your desktop? Can you right click the camera drive icon and "explore" then physically drag and drop picture files (probably .jpg's) into a folder/directory on your desktop?

With all digital cameras the maker delivers a CD (DVD) with software to install on your computer. This makes it possible to put the pictures from the camera on any computer. On the disk(s) are drivers for all operating systems that need them. (Windows 7 and up do have all drivers for hardware that is certified by Microsoft) And there are programs to download the pictures from the camera to the PC. Sometimes the manufactures also delivers software to organise the pictures in folders and software to view or even enhance the pictures you shot.
When you lost the disk, most of the time you can get the software on the website for your brand. Sometimes you even get newer, updated software and new drivers if needed.
If you can't get software form your brand, you always can install other generic software like Ulead, Pixir, BeFunkey, Gimp, Photoshop express. Or if that is not possible you could install an external memory card reader and download the pictures via de memory card reader.
I've got some additional questions for you:
How are you downloading these photos? Do you put the memory card in your computer or do you connect the camera to the computer using a cable?
What is the software you are using to download? Build in to the operating system (Windows, Apple, etc) or software you got with the camera?
What type of camera do you have?
Do you wish the software to download the photos from your camera? If so, as a better solution I highly recommend that you instead consider a card reader to download your photos. Card reader's are very inexpensive, much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.
You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. No software is needed. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. Some of the inexpensive ones work just fine. Go by the reviews. Also make sure you get a reader that is stated capable of reading your card (particularly if you have an SDHC card):: http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1232260593/ref=sr_st?keywords=sd+card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Asd+card+reader&sort=acrelevancerank
You do not need Camera Software to download pic to computer. Look for CAMERA or USB Storage Device in you MyComputer folder.
Your camera should show up in MyComputer as a Drive Device. If it does, just double click on it to view mem card contents. Drag and Drop or right click to Copy and Paste to your Pictures Folder or wherever folder.
Better yet, avoid these hassles forever by buying yourself a mine card reader that plugs directly into our USB port. I recommend the SanDisk Mobile Mate SD+. It is just a little larger than a USB Flash Drive and reads SD, SDHC, and MicroSD mem cards. No more unique and bulky USB cables to lug around and saves your camera battery power that otherwise is needed to view and download pics via cable.
$15 at RadioShack, Stapes, or anywhere mem cards are sold.
BTW, for maximum shot to shot response times on the TZ3, buy mem cards that specify at least a 10Megbits/sec data xfer speed. SanDisk Ultra II cards meet this spec. No need for faster more expensive Ultra III that cost more. Probably not worth buying unless you were going to buy a card anyway. TZ3 can handle SDHC(HighCapacity) mem cards to 8Gigabit. Very handy for mem hungry Movie clips.
No need for you to install any CD software because your camera will be recognized automatically as a removable disk when your computer has the following Operating Systems.
For transferring pictures with OS (Windows 98/XP/Vista/2000/MAC 9.2-10.3 ): - Turn off camera - Plug USB cable to camera and PC - Turn on camera - Connect to computer or printer will come out on camera screen - Select the desired one
- Press MENU/OK - "New Hardware Found" will be seen on the right lower corner - A window will pop out with various options - Example: "Open to View Files", "Copt to a folder"...
* If nothing like those mentioned above happened,
Double check through Computer Devices with Removable storage:
- Look for DCIM folder in any of the Removable storage
- Select 100sscam folder inside DCIM folder - Upon opening, all pictures will be viewed
Just try to make sure that you'll be using the USB cable supplied in the package and your PC does have good working USB ports.
Ok your computer should have the software needed to view the pictures already installed, so maybe you are having trouble actually getting them out of the camera and into the computer?
You may need to download the file for your operating system from here. http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/01/index.html#windows
After installing that you should just be able to plug the camera into the computer and let it copy the photos for you. On the PC the software is called "Scanner and Camera Wizard" (on windows XP) which can be found under All Programs, then Accessories, and on Mac I photo will do tthis for you.

Are you using windows Vista? If so you may need to get a firmware update from fuji web site www.fujifilm.ie .
