that is simply bs, Ham radio shops rarely like CB people (I am a long time cber and also a ham.
On that radio there are two things you can do, look for the mod limiter and remove it or another more simple thing: This radio comes with a 1000 ohm element in the mic--like speakers---Get a older or new 500 ohm microphone and wire it or have it wired for the 19 dx, it will make a big difference in how it sounds.
I not only worked on those radios but sold them in a shop I owned.
You might find a used mic that's 500 ohm, it is usually stamped into the back case of a mic.
Sounds like to me you regulator is bad, the dig three legged one in the back mounted to the side of the radio, if you have a meter check to see,outside legs should read 13 middle one at least 5 volts.This will cause you not to have key.

I've ran the audio in on my sound card to my mixer and had the guitar on the mic in. I've also ran the line in to a small cracker amp. Keep it turned down. If I would directly connect it use an adaptor. I haven't tried using a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and directly connected to it as I wanted to control the tone. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Keep everything muted and turned all the way down when you first connect it. Then start raising volumes slowly I will try and report back As far as spdif you're just recording analog to digital conversion. I get more realisitc sound just keeping it analog til it hits my line in. Have a quality sound card. Not some walmart special. I use Adobe Audition 1.5 to multichannel record.
When you say working in some places but not others, do you mean it works on some channels but not others?
I'm sure you are aware that condensers will not work without phantom power. I'd suggest trying your mic through a different system (if there are non available try your local music venue, if you ask the engineer nicely I'm sure he'll let you test it on their rig). Also try a diffenent condenser on all channels of your mixer, and also try a dynamic mic as well just for thoroughness.
I can't really give you an answer to this unless you've tested with other equipment to identify which part of your rig is faulty.
To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it was your mixer, I've always found behringer gear to be pretty crap quality.
Also it might be a stupid question but have you tried using a different cable?
