It's a bad LCD screen or bad video card. If its a laptop, try to hook an external monitor to the video port in the back and see if it has the same problem. If it is the same problem, then you know its the video card and not the monitor screen. If you have a desktop PC that has this problem, its most likely the video card. First try removing the monitor and trying it on another computer to see if the monitor is bad. If not, then remove and replace your video card and restart. If same problem, replace video card with a new one.

Stuck screensaver

Restart your computer. If the images aren't removed after the restart then I suggest that you install RadarSYnc and scan your computer with it. Then update all out-of-date drivers in your computer.

How to open hp laptop in sleep mode

This is a common problem on HP computers but also has many causes. If your laptop is not coming back on after being put into sleep mode, it could be a software issue among a few other things. If your computer has a hibernation mode I would suggest using it to get around the sleep mode issue. This mode will save everything the way it is and shut down completely. When you restart the computer it will open up just as you left it. Just like sleep mode except with a restart. This does not solve the sleep mode problem but easily provides a power saving alternative to it.

I am unable to access the internet from sleep mode Can only get on internet from shut down mode

Three possible causes of sleep mode. first, an extensive screensaver with password lock prevents display. A condition that is observable as a blankscreen also known as sleep mode. Second, a computer power saver settings that shutsdown during idleness. Third, An improper shut down of the computer would have caused a sleep mode to save the system data files.

Restoring the computer to regular functionalioty

First solving predictable sleep mode settings
1. A movement of mouse pointer across the screen should reestablish unprotected password modes
a. password protected sleep mode would display an promp message requiring key code soon after the mouse pointer has changed direction

sloving unpredictable sleep mode settings
1.A computer power saver, screen saver, or splash screen displays prevnting programs acess would require manually powering off the computer system.
a. A manual power back on of the system should restore to program functionality mode

My screen only displays after 4 /5 hrs

Try a different screensaver.

Also look in the display properties by simply right clicking the desktop and clicking properties.

Then locate power management.

the initial seems to be a bad screensaver judging by the 20 minutes, but the 4-5 hours seems to be a sleep mode that bypasses the screensaver issue.

Can't wake up....gone into sleep mode...how do you wake it up

press and hold the power button down for about 5 secs. The computer will shut down. Restart it and right click on the desktop, go to properties then look for screensaver tab , then choose power options, click on hibernation tab at the top and uncheck enable hibernation. Or choose stanby options and choose a longer time before the computer goes to sleep.

I have a new HP 9430 desktop. When left running it will cycle down to a dormant state but the fan is running continually and it won't come back unless I pull the power and restart

What I believe is your problem is that your computer is going into a power saving mode called a "Sleep state".

If this is the case you should be able to "wake it up" by pressing the sleep button.

HP/Compaq usually put one on their keyboards. It has an icon on it the shape of a crescent moon and is usually labeled "Sleep" Press that to give your pc a wakeup call when it is asleep. Or if you want to put your PC to sleep to save power when it is awake.

If your like me you probably don't care for this feature. Fortunately it CAN be disabled easily. open the page you would use to change your screensaver. At the bottom of it is a smaller page with an "Energy star" logo in it.

This is your power settings control panel. From here you can adjust the settings so the "Sleep state" takes longer to kick in or disable it altogether.

You should also be able to find power settings in the control panel (But the path is different depending on which version of Windows you have" but it is always at the bottom of the screensaver panel.

Good luck

Laptop HP Compaq nx9420 Screen goes Blank

From the Symptom you described, it seems like the thin video cable's connector is loose and is barely connected to the video adapter on the motherboard. You won't be able to tell until you remove the Keyboard and/or the Palmrest to check it. Also, there is a slim possibility that the Laptop has knocked something loose and is going into sleep mode. Normally, a Laptop user can configure it to go into Sleep mode or 'Hibernate'. These settings can be found in the Control Panel under 'Power Settings'. http://www.Computer-Repair-Today.com
