Change the air filter, that’s almost always the problem. You could also change the fuel filter and spark plug. It wouldn’t hurt. Although it could be the carb, These things I mentioned should be tried first.

Try cleaning the carburetor and blow or clean jets. Then new mix and clean fuel. Start up, and probably set the idling to a little faster to start then adjust for good idle speed so it won't stall. Hope this may help.

SOURCE: Homelite 16'' chain saw runs rough and backfires

One of two things is wrong. This saw is so old I doubt it has electronic ignition. Pull the flywheel off and clean the points with carb cleaner and sand the contacts very, very lightly with super fine sandpaper or a little file. Second option, the coil is bad, take it to the shop and they should be able to test it for you.

SOURCE: my homelite super 2 chainsaw keeps flooding. it

Needle valve in carb. maybe hung open. Or diaphragm may be bad. You will need to remove carb. and clean and replace all worn parts. Go to homelite.com to find manual for the saw.

SOURCE: old homelite XL chainsaw pumping bar oil into engine while runnin

Check that the oiler hole and the hole in the bar that it pumps into aren't clogged. The sawdust running under the chain and be deposited in the oiler hole in the bar until it plugs it solid. That will keep the oil from havintg a place to go and build up pressure.

Homelite 10947d set for year cleaned good clean gas and oil pulled plug looks good cleaned got it running got some rpm but does'nt have power is there a gas filter I can clean

The filter is dangling inside the fuel tank on a length of fuel line toward the back of the tank--use a hooked wire to catch and pull the filter out of the tank. Check the line end for decay while there and replace the line if in trouble. The far end of the line is attached right at the carburetor body. Use original line type, not plastic. Check the muffler for plugging and repair or replace it if damaged. Hope this helps!

How do you pull the carburetor to get to the muffler

Your question raises a couple of my own.
Make, model, and serial number? There are over 300 Homelite models, 230 McCulloch models, Etc. Do you think they are all constructed the same?
Why would you need to remove the carburetor to remove the muffler?

Homelite xl chainsaw revved up & quit and won't start now

I suspect you have a fuel delivery problem or a dirty carburetor. As a chain saw runs out of fuel they often revv slightly (running lean). HTH

This sounds like carburetor trouble. These small carbs have a tendency to do just what you've described. Run like a champ until all the old gas in the carb is broken loose and then clogs the jets. Have the carb gone through and you will thank yourself. Hope this helps. good luck.
