Can't get the reader writer's Icon to come up

We have the Husquvarna 'Rose and the reader writer that we bought with it. We have tried everything we can think of, including getting an old computer at good will that had windows 98 on it. What can we do to get this to work so that we can use this machine again?
the reader writer light comes on and all looks fine. The Icon just won't pop up

You have to have the Husqvarna Viking Software installed on your computer for it to work. The first version of the software is called 4D embroidery and sells for around $400. You can see features of it on their web site.

You need a driver for your computer that recognizes the card writer. The Hus Rose site should have this, or possibly the people who made the card writer.
This is older technology so you may have to do a google.com search of the Internet for a better explanation.
Or find a Rose blog site and ask there.

My VIP customizing reader writer box suddenly
Does your reader require a dongle/hard key? If so is it fitted correctly into the machine?

If that isn't the case perhaps an email to Viking/Husky is in order.

Reader/Writer for Viking Rose-Do I have to replace?
I would reccomend that you go to the dealer and think about upgrading your machine, I used to have a Rose. I upgraded and am happy I did, I think you can get the 4D with some of the new machines...if not deal for it with your new machine.

Your software cannot connect through a usb port if it originally connected through a printer port. The usb option came about in later versions of husqvarna's software and there is no patch that makes it work through a usb hub. Her only option for running your old software is to have an older computer with the parallel port for the printer style cable.

4D Extra and Reader/Writer
QUESTIONS:
is the reader writer a USB or parallel cord? (they have both.
If it's USB you need the 256K card otherwise the regular card, and yes it can work you just have to have the right card for your reader writer.

You might need an update for your reader writer box. The one you have might be old and that is why it does not recognizes it. Just go to the manufacturer's site and download an update for your reader/writer box.
