When I play back my video, I get horizontal stripes of alternating recorded video and image on the screen when I started the playback. The bands are about equal width and there are about ten or eleven bands total.
It is on the camera screen and the iMovie screen when uploaded.

Having used a cleaning tape several times to no effect. I then went to record, to see if the bands appeared in recording mode. They didn't. So I went back to playback mode and the bands had disappeared.
I assume you are talking about playback on the built-in screen? If so, how do videos look once downloaded to your PC? If they are ok, contact Canon for repair or exchange.
dear , i Jasdeep working in superb broadcast as an lengineer .and for this problem i can suggest u the following things : 1. Play back the cleaning tape for 10 sec. only then use it.
actually this problem occurs when the head get clogged (i.e, dirty ) it REC. only single band and shows the same in play back too.
I was having the exact same problems, and I read a post on this website somewhere recommending that I just record a few seconds of video on a blank portion of tape and then the camera should start playing video normally again.
the stripes are caused from one of the heads on the dd cylinder not updating. you need to stick a head cleaner in, if that does not solve the problem then either the head is going need a thorough clean or it is damaged. it will need replacing.
Hello,
after the cleaning try to record and then check the new recordings. If there is no change (3 wide bands still present) the video head is malfunctioning. The part number is: A7048938A
