We need to change the door on our microwave. We have the new door, but can't find anything in the manual about removing the old door. It is a Frigidaire Gallery series above range microwave. Any suggestions?

The bulbs are either 25Watt SES or special fitting. Replacement of the lamp should be carried out by a qualified appliance repair service.
YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT!
Attempt this only if you are competent.
But here is a basic method if you are mechanically minded and have electrical safety knowledge.
The lamp is sat in a housing and its position is adjacent to the vent holes that it shines through.
If you feel confident, disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity.
Remove the microwave cover. Purchasing a new replacement lamp will be useful as it will give you an idea of what it looks like. Locate the dead lamp remove the lamp and fit the new one. Replace the covers. Plug it back in and try the lamp by opening the door.

Many are shipped with a protective sheet over just the keypad. Your owner's manual should address that if it needs to be removed upon delivery.

If not, then the keypad itself may be worn.

If it all works, and does not do come on or do anything by itself (which poses a fire hazard) then it may just be wear.

No action is necessary until some pads fail to activate or the oven comes on or does anything by itself. Then repair is necessary.

At that time post a new help request with the full model number from the tag on the oven (not the manual) and exact symptoms - what it's doing or not doing, and when.

On many models you can open the door all the way and gently lift it off.

Otherwise, you have to do some disassembly.

Most microwave oven doors come off by simply opening the door all the way open and lifting straight up at the hinges. You may have to remove the upper grill cover on some models for better access. You need to know where the 'catches' are inside the choke cover on the door to remove it carefully without breaking anything or marring the cover. You might get inside and find that the post for mounting the return spring has broken and that is part of the outer door panel.

To replace the inner part of the latch is actually quite easy. Remove the glass tray from inside, then unplug the unit. Take to a flat surface and stand on edge so that the door will open flat. On the inside is a plastic trim that is just clipped on. Pop this off carefully and you will now see the assembly you need to replace. Note where the spring is anchored to the door before taking it apart. Put a small amount of lubricant on the guide pins of the new catch (petroleum jelly works great).

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

The door comes off in a very simple way. Now...I'm speaking from the perspective of MOST microwave ovens. All you should have to do is open the door all the way to the left and lift straight up. The door has mounting pins that fit into a couple of hinge pin holes. If your oven is equipped with an upper panel grid, you may have to remove it, so the door will have more clearance. Putting the new door on is just as simple as lining up the pins in the door with the hinge pin holes and setting the door in place. Close the door slowly to make sure the pins are aligned with the holes properly. If not, the door will fall off while attempting to close. Let me know if this is helpful to you.
