Ipod classic won't sync with itunes 10

Restarting your computer is often the solution when your iPod fails to sync with your iTunes music library. But if this fails, there are other troubleshooting steps to take.

Recharge your iPod via a USB cable connected to your computer or AC adapter. b> Click the help menu in iTunes and check for updates. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the latest version of the software. Open the new version of iTunes. Click the name of your iPod in the source list and check for updates under the summary tab to update your iPod. Attempt to sync your iPod with iTunes. Slide your iPod's hold switch to the hold position and then to off. Press and hold the menu and center buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears to reset your iPod. Open iTunes on your computer and reconnect your iPod to try to sync it with iTunes. Restart iPod service b> Close iTunes and make sure your iPod is disconnected from the computer. Click the 'start' button. Click 'run' if using Windows XP. Type 'services.msc' in the run box in XP and in the search box in the start menu in Windows 7 and Vista. Press 'enter.' Scroll through the list and double-click on 'iPod service.' Click the 'stop' button and leave the properties window open. Connect your iPod to the computer. Open 'my computer' or 'computer' and look for your iPod listed in the devices with removable storage section. Click the 'start' button in the iPod Service's properties window. Open iTunes to attempt to sync your iPod. Close the iPod Service's properties window once your iPod has finished syncing. Resolve "Original File could not be Found" Double-click the name of a song in the iTunes program that failed to sync to your iPod. Click 'yes' or 'locate' to the message asking you if you want to locate the file. Navigate to the folder or directory location where the song is stored on your computer. Double-click the song file to select it and add it back to iTunes. Reconnect your iPod to the computer and open iTunes to restart the syncing process. ITunes freezes after 8.1 upgrade on Vista PC

Apple has made it harder and harder to use our ipods over the last upgrade especially.
I am running itune 8 on vista home basic and I have the same problem.
But since I repair ipods i put numerous ipods on this system and it doesn;t work that great with any of them.
although I have found one solution that really has helped with alot of connection issues and ipod crashing in vista. I installed a usb 2.0 card in my computer and only use it for my ipod cable and it has helped.
Most of the iPods and iPhones only will connect with a 2.o usb port anymore.
So if you have a usb 2.0 use it, if you need drivers get them and reinstall them in your computer to get the fast usb connection. it is still slow in itunes but it's much better.

as for iTunes 8 and why it crashes, well it is an apple product. the don;t care about the ipod, it's a throw away product for them. They want you to buy a new one. But in this day and age, they should give us a break and start making the products so they are user friendly. Thats why Mac has never really exploded. They are too expensive and they don;t support their products. Even the Geniuses at the genius bars in Apple store done know **** about their own products, they just give refubished ****.

Good luck and sorry for the Rant!!!

I pod touch

ipods are only designed for itunes so windows shouldn't recognise media player, any way, the new software for ipod touches is greater, meaning your computer/windows media player wont recognise it, only itunes will.

Solution

Microsoft has released an update for Windows Vista that addresses a situation where ejecting iPod from Windows Explorer or by using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows Vista could corrupt your iPod. Apple recommends Windows Vista customers who own an iPod install this software update. For information on how to install this Microsoft hot fix, refer to the "Update your software" section below. Tip: iPod can always be ejected safely by choosing Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.

Update your software

Microsoft has made this Update for Windows Vista (KB936824) available via Windows Update as well as a separate download package. To download this update via Windows Update follow the steps below:

  1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, select Check for updates in the Security section. If the Control Panel is in Classic view, open Windows Update.
  3. Click the View available updates link and be sure that Update for Windows Vista (KB936824) is checked.
  4. Click Install.
