My r15-100 died suddenly. I believe the drive itself is fine, but the box is dead. Is there reco a way to salvage my recordings to another r15 100, 300, or 500?
I have a new one, but I want to know about salvaging my recordings from the old dvr. These fuses are for manual hvac. Not only check the fuses, use a test light and check voltage at fuses. One fuse is hot all the time, the other two go hot with key on. Also, check ground at hvac unit, black wire, not shown in picture. good luck.
Hi there, the HDD is a common component to fail in a DVR. The DVR Itself should actually tell you the status of the storage device if you navigate the menu.
I could probably assist you remotely to find out if you like?
First thing would do is check just how securely the battery leads are attached to the battery. Next have a look at the earth strap from engine to car frame connections. A complete cut out as you describe can only occur if there is sudden complete shut down of the electrical system, this would also account for the ECU not recording trouble codes, it needs at least to be on before it can record anything. The next check point would be the main fuse and starter relay and then the starter switch itself; there has to be break/loose connection somewhere in the 'on' circuit. This is not a 'short' otherwise the main fuse would have blown.
Try connecting it to another computer.
If it is not detected, then either the disk-drive "inside" the unit is dead, or the "adapter" (USB-to-Disk-Drive) inside the unit is dead.
If the latter, disassemble the case, remove the disk-drive, and attach it as an "internal" hard-drive to your computer.
I have a Sharp Carousel that got zapped once during a thunderstorm. Since it was dead, I opened it up to see what I could salvage. Turned out there is a main fuse inside, it is a ceramic cylinder with metal ends, like the old glass car fuses but ceramic instead. Bought a replacement from Digi-Key and it has worked fine ever since.
Hi,
Sounds like sudden electrical failure, likely causes are crank shaft position sensor or engine control relay failure both are common, could be bad earth connection
